Best cell phone co.?

Have a friend who lives in the US and he swears by Verizon. Apparently best coverage in his area, and some other reasons that I can't recall. I think your mileage varies though, which is the hardest part about recommending services to someone.

A lot depends on your area. I have had Verizon for 10+ years and have been more than pleased with their service. Numerous times I have gotten full reception when people from other cell companies have 0 bars.

This.
But I have been with Verizon for almost 9 years and I am not switching anytime soon.

I've been able to make calls through Verizon when no one else has been able to.

Most important time was on a mountain road when there had been a motorcycle crash. Mine was the only phone of several that was able to place a call.

Plus, Verizon to Verizon calls are free, and my whole family is on Verizon.

I like AT&T if just for their GSM service. Only AT&T and Tmobil are GSM in the USA. Verizon and Sprint are CDMA. The whole world is GSM, except those two in the USA.

I land in France, switch on my phone, and I'm connected with Orange, or BiTell, or F-SFR. I land in Italy and I'm connected with Wind or Vodafone. Automatic, without me having to tell ATT to switch anything on. If I decide the cost is too high, I just go to a local cell phone store (or on the Internet) and buy a local SIM card. Matter of fact, in Europe, I carry two phones. One with my American AT&T number, and the other with the cheaper European number. (must keep American number to receive emergency calls, from family or neighbors).

In addition, I am out in Roswell NM often, and trying to get data from Verizon is very hard. No Verizon there. Connecting with Verizon, I would sometimes get on a 3G network, but mostly on a 2G network. I had to go to McDonalds to use their WiFi. Well 18 months ago, AT&T purchased AllTel from Verizon, and now Roswell has great Voice and data coverage.

Everywhere I've been in the USA, and in Europe, my phones work great.

In the very near future, I hope to get two new iPhones, and keep one of my old phones for a total of three phones. All I have to decide is if I want the new Family Data Plan, or the present plans.

Consumer Reports rates cell companies at least yearly. AT&T is usually the worst and Verizon is the best. But there are limited areas where one coverage may be spotty and another one much better. My Verizon cell does not work in my house, but does almost everyplace else. My house is in the sticks. No cable even. Slooow DSL and DirectTV.

For now I am grandfathered in for unlimited data at Verizon.

Verizon is probably the best with most coverage area in rural areas. In major cities, almost all if not all companies will give you great coverage.

I was a loyal Verizon customer for 16 years but have now switched to a less expensive GSM provider that gives me unlimited, voice, data and text for under $40. Where I am, coverage is good.

Make sure it works where you live. Wife has Verizon and we moved and she got no coverage in our house (even the yard). Had to drop 250 on a device that plugs into our internet router. That works perfectly, though.

I have ATT which is fine, no better or worse than anything else IMO.

We like Verizon. We just switched our family plan to one of their new tiered structure. We have historically used about 8 GB of data each month across about 6 different devices. We moved to a new 14 GB/month plan and it's costing us less overall, we have more data than we'll ever use, minutes are absolutely no charge no matter who you are talking to or at what time of day, and customer service has been good so far. We've been Verizon customers for over 10 years.

I have been with Verizon since 2006, no problems at all. Good service coverage no matter where I go, decent prices, free calls to other Verizon phones, and I get an 18% discount for being a State of Florida employee...I don't do mobile internet or Twitter or any of that stuff, just phone calls and the occasional text message. Wife sends more text messages than I do.

Best? In what regard?

Best phones? (newest, cheapest, widest selection)
Best coverage? (urban, rural, suburban, cruise ships)
Best data speeds? (3G, 4G, wifi hotspots)
Best rates? (packages, texts, mobile to mobile)
Best customer service? (nicest people, friendliest, most knowledgeable)
Best B&M stores? (best employees, more locations, convenience)
Best international coverage? (which regions, rates, options)

Too many variables. 99% of the posts in this thread have been subjective anyways. One person might have an awful experience with Verizon while mine has been perfect.

I've got 6 lines with Verizon...2 iPhones, 2 Droid Razrs, 2 regular phones. Coverage in the US is excellent (I travel often) and customer service has been very good. I have not had a single problem with a Verizon device (among the crew, we've had dozens: LG, Samsung, Motorola, Apple, Audiovox) in the 12 years I've been with them.

Yep. I live in an area that is serviced by two companies. Anybody who comes to visit me with AT&T or Sprint (like my nephew and my sister) has no reception. Or, they get their text messages quite often 24 hours after the sender sent them.
Just use whatever works in your area.

+1

GSM is the way to go for people who travel. I buy a low cost local SIM cards overseas for cheap calls and swap the SIM cards that is super easy in my unlocked iphone. BTW, I use T-Mobile when in states, much cheaper compared to AT&T (no contract and I pay way under $100 for a family plan of 4 phones).

The best is the one that has the best reception where you will be. If all being equal, the cheapest for the same level of service you want.

Verizon for me as they have the best coverage in the area. Customer service is ok too.

It depends where you are.

I feel like Verizon has deadspots every where I spend a lot of time. Sadly I have to use a cell router in my home requiring an internet connection.
