4X4 Silverado Truck
For the minimal price difference and difference in fuel mileage, I would recommend a fullsize.

Uhm, it's a couple bolts for the skid plate and the filter housing is right under there in front. The cartridge housing is the same size as a bucha other Toyota's; there's a good bit of tools out there for that housing. Yea, it's not easy like the old 4.0, but it's not difficult. There's so many other manufactures that require removal of a skid plate for an oil change, and they use a ton more fasteners. I think there are other issues with the 3rd Gen Tacoma that are way more pressing...
Do the toy or zr2 have AWD?
I thought only the ridge had AWD?

If I wanted a small truck, I'd have a hard time saying no to a factory chipped Ranger. It will hang with or beat your Stelvio for acceleration, and you already like the looks. All that's left is the test drive to see if you like the ride and handling. I skipped over Toyota for the same reasons you listed when I bought my CUV, and skipped over Alfa for the same reason you discovered, along with reliability concerns.Ok BITOG, just looking for some helpful feedback...
My wife currently drives a Stelvio (best driving SUV EVER!). Problem is, our local dealer closed down, and now the closest one is over 3 hours away...making service, etc. very difficult...and my wife very upset. I just took it back for a third warranty trip, and it takes a whole day+ which is a giant pain! She loves her current ride, but won't tolerate a dealer that far away. We have been talking about suitable replacements, and she is really attracted to the top level small truck segment (ie. Chevy Colorado ZR2, Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO).
Yes, it will be a "mall crawler", I will most likely put a hard bed cover on it to act as a weatherproof storage area.
Which is the best and why? I am personally heavily leaning toward the Chevy as everything I have read says it has the best ride and handling. We are not tech nerds...so a super fancy info-tainment is of little value to us. I am also a long time Chevy fan. I do like the looks of a blacked out Ranger...but am reading the ride it terrible. My wife is leaning toward the Toyota...but it seems old and dated and slow...
thoughts? Are there other top level, small trucks I am missing? (I WILL NEVER DRIVE A HONDA).
OP is replacing an Alfa. Reliability isn't even a factor here, as far as I can tell. Just "do I like it?" and OP listed their criteria.Even if that were true, not everyone is interested in long term ownership.
What's the exact turn radius of these models? It’s not really that bad. It’s ~3ft more than a Tacoma, and 1 foot less than a Colorado.
That isnt AWD thats "automatic 4WD" its 2 WD upon slippage detection.
After X amount of slip it will engage. Im unsure whats locked and whats open on that system as I haven't seen it on a 4 wheel roller test.
Pretty good - not quite the same.

Guys...full size is out of the question. I have one already, and she hates driving it. She is already concerned these small PU's might be too big (even though she drove a Trailblazer EXT for a number of years when we first got married).
Did you drive the ranger yet? Thoughts?Wow, some of the replies are just rude...sad :-(
We will drive the Chevy, Toyota, and Ford. I already have an Xterra...so no need to drive the Nissan, as it isn't much different. Ride quality and AWD (NOT 4WD) performance are the most important, so we will see how it comes out. My bride will take our trail toy Xterra Off Road (lift, better shocks/springs, bigger tires, bashed out) over her Alfa many times because she likes to drive it...so it is not as much of a stretch as many of you might think.
Right now, she prefers the Toy...and I prefer the ZR2...I'll update after we drive and see what kind of deals we can get.
Again, I appreciate the feedback. Thank you.
The Model Y 0 to 60 time is 4.8 seconds, I believe. I don't really like the way they look that much, though.Check out the 0 to 60 times of these small pickups. You can have any engine you want in the Ford Ranger, as long as it’s a 4 cylinder Turbo. When on the on ramp....

The model Y will get to 60 mph 2.2 seconds faster that the Ranger but after about 300 miles or so it will go from 60 to zero and the Ranger will keep going another 400 miles. The Model Y 0 to 60 time is 4.8 seconds, I believe. I don't really like the way they look that much, though.
