Mrs. Tdbo has been after me to buy a new car to replace the 2000 Taurus w/ 212K. I thought I would try to be open minded and overcome my anti GM bias and explore their offerings. So I ended up at a Chevrolet dealer looking at a 2010 Impala. The salesman informs me that there is a $4K rebate and I'm said that I am aware of that. He said there are other rebates and I said what. He mentioned AARP (oh boy!), some credit union and another organization. He then asks me if I have bad credit. I said absolutely not. He then informed me that if my FICO score was below 500 that I would qualify for an additional $2K rebate. I left immediately. Nothing like rewarding financial irresponsibility. Good old Government Motors. Now I have anti GM bias for a different reason.

Sounds like they were going to cut you a good deal on a good car and you let your bias and interpretation get in the way. Who knows what is really behind the FICO score rebate.

They weren't going to cut me nothing. What else can you interpret from a rebate that the criteria for qualifying is that your FICO score has to be less than 500 to qualify?

I would of had a very good laugh when he mentioned the additional $2K rebate for bad credit.

BTW, did you see those UAW bums smoking marijuana and drinking beer on their 30 minute break, its all over the net and is very funny to watch until they are caught by a news reporter and film crew.

I would tend to agree but please refer to sentence one of my original post in regard to the condition I am experiencing.

I guess a $4000 rebate is nothing. I don't know anything ab out a low FICO score rebate, maybe you misunderstood him or something.

Because non-UAW workers never do that and I guess Ford and Chrysler or out since they are UAW too.

Do you know it was a GM corporate incentive? Or was it from some bank that particular dealer uses? Maybe that rebate was a way to get poeple with bad credit into a car in a way that lowers the price, so with the extra interest (due to their bad credit) they can still afford the monthly payments on the car. And the financing arm still gets their money because of the higher interest costs. Lots of people who can still pay their bills have bad credit for a variety of reasons.

Like was said, I think your assumptions and presumptions got the best of you.

I haven't driven an Impala (the new version - had a 2002 and generally liked it but too many problems), but the 2008 and newer Malibus are very nice. My only complaint with those is the lack of head room.

And those individuals have since been fired by Chrysler. The execs took the issue very seriously once they found out about it.

That is ridiculous, but I can't say Id let it persuade me against getting a killer deal...

There was absolutely no misunderstanding, I asked him for clarification. IMO $4K off a $29K 2010 (year old) Impala isn't much. If I could lower my 750+ credit score to < 500 for an additional 2K and age prematurely to get the 1K AARP discount, IMO I might be closer to what the vehicle should be priced at.

They worked for Mopar, there was a video of Ford employees doing it a few years back on you tube too.
No GM folks yet. Save it for another thread.
My credit is good. I could care less what kind of discount someone with worse credit than me is getting. I am sure you could have worked it in to the deal. Too many people worrying about everyone else.
