Has anyone got experience with Cooper's Discoverer M+S Sport studless winter tire? I think it came out in 2007. I'll soon be shopping for...snow shoes...for the car, and I'll need 235/65R17 tires. Superior wet road behavior is higher on my list than the best snow or ice traction, and the Hankook i*cept evo is probably the favorite so far.

are you getting separate rims? do you want to downsize to 16" rims?

Thats a fairly oddball tire size?

what type of suv is this?

looks like you are stuck with 3-4 options in a performance winter.

those coopers

HANKOOK WINTER I*CEPT EVO TIRES

some generic falkens I wouldnt run.

Nokian WRG2

VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 3 SUV TIRES

were you interested in just performance winter tires.. or any winter tires?

Guys

In the States and Canada do you still have studded winter tyres. We used to have them in the UK but stopped probably about 1990.

it's against our Construction and Use Regulations in the UK now.

The tires will go on a Kia Sorento.

Tirerack lists a number of tires in that size (ignoring the studable):
Conti ExtremeWinterContact
Blizzak WS70
Blizzak DM-V1
Michelin Xi-2
Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3-D
Pirelli Scorpion Winter

And, the Cooper & Hankook that Tirerack doesn't stock, plus perhaps others.

--Assuming that any real winter tire is far superior on snow & ice than the best all-season tire,
--and that a studless rubber compound is better on ice and snow than a compound designed for studs but not studded (I'm not sure about this),
--and that rain is much more common here than the white version,
--and price always matters somewhat,
----the Hankook i*cept evo still looks like the one to beat for my needs.

Studded tires are legal here. I believe they are the safest on ice. They do eat pavement, and they do make noise. I'm satisfied with the performance of most of the studless tires I've had (one set of Dunlops didn't age well).

Performance winter is designed for spirited driving.

You probably dont need that with a sorrento although its nice to not have marshmallow tires.

the michelin xice xi2's are mediocre the xi3's are much better. That being said they handle much like regular tires vs snow tire feel.

both the conti EWC and blizzack ws-70 are great.. I've had both personally.

For seattle I'd skip studded tires.

usually studless are better than studded(without studs) for ice traction.
