At the **** PP acronym..

I called Pennzoil Technical help line and asked about what the base oil for platinum was and they said it was 100% group IV(4), does anyone here have any firm proof that this technical reperesentative lied to me or doesn't know what he is talking about?

I was told Group III, but like Johnny said, they are Group III +, PAO and Ester.

I have contacts at Westhollow and HLP. I will attempt to get them to confirm or deny the presence of GPIII.
If they are cagey, I will report that, and let you make up your own mind.

This statement in the literature:

"Molecular uniformity of full synthetic formulation to maintain viscosity, for easier start-ups, even in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold)."
Sure seems to indicate Cycle Freak may be right.

I spoke with a tech recently myself and he told me it was Group III+. This is typical of tech responses from some of the oil companies, depends on who you talk to as to what answers you recieve. But I tend believe the info he supplied was accurate. Seemed very knowledgeable about the product line. And our BITOG Pennzoil rep has already stated it was Group III+,PAO and some ester.

Definately group III.

Would not confirm or deny the presence of esters or PAO. Was very high on the product and directed me to the Pennziol site showing a video of a Shell version of a panel coker test. Little or no varnish or deposit buildup compared to other oils. Looks good for turbocharged engines IMHO.

Still, too expensive for group III, IMO.

Always ask for someone's name when seeking answers like these. Spontaneous, annonymous responses cannot be trusted as much as an employee's name attached to their statements.

Is anybody in the mid-atlantic and especially central PA or MD finding this oil? I have been to Pep-Boys, Walmart, Autozone, NAPA, K-mart, Target, and Sears. Can't find it!

Opps, forgot I tried Advanced Auto too.

My local AutoZone here in the Philadelphia suburbs carries it in 5w-30 and 10w-30 varieties. If I ever spot the "European" formulations, I may just have to pick some up to try it.

Knowing they are using EOP/PAO/Ester I think these oils are going to be great. It wouldn't surprise me if they outperform M1 GF-4. No VOA's yet?
