Brother is running a non DEXOS oil in his 10’ Yukon Denali without issue. Soon he will be using either M1 0w30 or TOTAL 5w40. Always uses older yellow grip Purolator 1 filter. Any of you folks use non DEXOS oil in your older GM vehicles?

Thank You

if it has over 75k probably a 5w-30 synthetic high milage formula would be fine to use. also most hm oils are not dexos rated,in this case it really does not matter either way.

I ran Valvoline Maxlife HM for years in my 2005 Chevy 5.3. IIRC it wasn’t Dexos approved. I sold it at 248,000 miles. The Valvoline ‘Restore and Protect’ I believe is not Dexos approved. I’m running the R&P in my 2019 Chevy 4.3.

while there is no need for it in mine either (2005 GMC Yukon Denali - 6.0) I find that most any oil I choose to use has the Dexos 1 Gen 2 and now Gen 3 approval...during my ownership mine has had ACD, Farm and Fleet and now Quaker State full synthetic motor oils in the recommended 5W-30 and the Dexos 1 approval...

I never understood those that let a Dexos approval dissuade them from buying a motor oil...buy whatever meets the approvals and recommendations for your particular application and go from there...

anyway...good luck with your choice

Bill
