Good Morning folks 😃

Was chatting with my friend I volunteer at food bank with; he has a older Ford Fusion and a older Ford Escort ZX3 manual trans

He has some older M1 0w40 oil and wondered if he could use it.

I typically use 5W30/10W30 however, I have entertained the thought and may want to try a EURO(0W40) oil in the 1980 Firebird FORMULA V8 in my signature(click link below). However, I have also tried/used on occasion over the past 43 years, an HDEO and I like them.

I may now try e.g., Rotella 5W40 FS. Should I ever have to move the car earlier than I'd like after she's been sitting for several months, but before I am ready to take'er out in the spring/summer/autumn(May-Nov), I want an oil with a low starting cST such as 0 or 5 and not 10 or 15.

I run that same oil in my 2005 Silverado and 1976 350 v8 Oldsmobile. So far both run like new while the 2013 Hyundai that I stuck to thinner oils to prevent warranty issues is currently awaiting it's new engine at 94k miles.
Ahhhh, Hun/Kia seems like luck of the draw with some of them!

FWIW, I have always primed my old cars before the first start. I run electric fuel pumps, so I pull fuse for fuel pump and crank until I see oil pressure. Then replace fuel pump relay to fill carb and start normally. You could also pinch rubber fuel line if you have a mechanical pump, and/or disconnect choke to prevent starting during prime.

My only concern for myself is that my Firebird FORMULA V8 does have a little bit of blow-by and that there is extra ppm of zinc compared to conv/syn 5W/10W 30 or 40. And this could pollute my OE cat.conv. over a period of time.

If it's been sitting for more than a month or two I'll do this or sometimes all the injectors share a harness plug. Or i unplug coils because the fuse box is behind the glove box and the injectors are hidden somewhere (thanks Mercedes)
