I am curious about the actual wholesale price of big brands motoroil. Those full synthetic product (mobil, shell, castrol, quaker, pennzoil) in Walmart is almost always for $22.xx/5qt jug. Even with mail-in rebate, they still can make money.

And where to get the better price at larger quantity?

Thanks

Are you sure they aren't 2.5 gal?

Buying on closeout by the quart seems cheaper per unit price than wholesale.

I looked into a 55 gallon barrell.. can get them thru amazon or Lowes for about $480. But one can get 5 qt of supertech for $8-9 buying online, or autozone clearance for $1.

I inquired into it when i owned a garage and did about 500 gallons of oil/week. In simple terms i was told that walmart/parts stores buy 10000s of truckloads of oil/yr and was on a different pricing tier than a man needing x/gallons/yr.. In some cases some brands pay the brick and mortar $X to have shelf placement.

So i doubt you can find cheaper oil than a chain store thats running a sale.

I never saw Autozone go to $1 for their clearance, best was $2 a quarter. $1 was the year before. I wonder what price it will be this year. I think it was $4 a quart before it went to $2, maybe it'll just go down to $3 a quart.

Actually I am looking to buy 10s thousands qt per batch.

With that volume, you can go to any distributor and get a quote. Prolly go direct to Warren Oil too

I don't know about oil but I do know the markup on filters is rediculous.

Motorcraft FL2062

Big Name Autoparts - $18.99

Large Discount Store - $9.02

Motorcraft Distributor - $5.05 at Retail not Wholesale.

I am really curious about the real margin rate for motor oil.

Which is still around $533 including shipping, at least for me. At that price, I'm looking at about $2.42 per quart. Not a bad price, sure... but I can find better if I look.

Personally, I always buy a smaller brand 'Super S' synthetic blend from Kmart. Kmart sometime lower the price to 8.xx-10.xx per 5qt jug (regular syn blend or highmileage).
It's around $2 per qt, and retail small package.

I am looking for somewhere can offer lower or even similar unit price for Mobil1, Shell or Castrol as Walmart.

I don't have all the information, but I do know that our big retailers like a markup of over 100% on motor oil. I know I get my Delvac 1 from the distributor at less than half of what the big retailers charge here, and we know they're paying less than I do.

Most of my suppliers prefer a roughly 10% markup on oil. I do fairly well at the distributor, but large quantities will get you another sizeable discount. There are indications that certain very large users of HDEOs up here are paying half of what I already pay for Delvac 1, and I'm doing far better than retail. Part of that, of course, is package size.

In Canada, and Saskatchewan surprisingly is located in Canada

, the big retail stores sell synthetic oil at about $50 per 4.4L, 4.78L or 5L jugs at their regular prices. When it goes on sale, it's usually about $30 per jug. Most oil distributors will have their regular price the same as retail "sale" price.
