Anyone Else Like "Unconventional" Vehicles?

Hehe... yup, I was a sheep once, driving an '00 Accord (no offence to all the others who drive this car). I didn't think of it initially, but suddenly it hit me that every other car on the road looks just like mine. Not to mention that it rode like a boat. Within a year I got rid of it.

The next car I bought was mainly based on its fun-to-drive factor, but keeping practicality and individuality in mind as well...

I also think, with the right treatment, they are some of the best looking vehicles on the road. I've seen a few well done "Caprice SS" wagons, and I think they look pretty cool. If I could have found a '96 wagon, I'd of went with that and turned it into a full boat SS, complete with shaved rack and radiused wheel wells.

I drive a Volvo 740 Station Wagon. Is it unconventional? It is unconventional since it is a rear wheel drive with a manual five speed transmission. The driver is a Conservative, Gun packer that listens to heavy metal and hard rock while driving with the windows down to annoy the masses. Aren't Volvo's suppose to be owned by ABBA listening, Gun hating, liberals. I consider anything that has an automatic and FWD a Girl's car.

Wasn't there a piece done in Car and Driver on a build up on a Caprice wagon? They stuffed the SS wheels on it, wider tires and lowered it, ripped the rack off and tinted the windows all around. It was painted a black cheery or Black I can't remember. It was one bad looking wagon. I think a 6 speed manual transmission would be the way to go if using for long road trips.

I guess you could say I like unconventional cars. Although my cars aren't unconventional in type, but definately in number. I'm always having trouble finding parts for my cars. I like a vehicle to be unique, even it's a two door coupe. I would never want to drive a look alike camry or accord.

My cars:

87 Buick Lesabre T-type, one of 15,938 made. It has a Supercharged 3800 from a 97 GTP.

Well I own two trucks ( 01 F150 & 83 K3500) Both are 4x4 and the GMC has a 454, 6" lift and 35" BFGs. A redneck's heaven. Actually I built it when I was 19 and drove it for a while, then parked it about 8 years ago. When I get the time and money, I will drop it back to stock height and restore it.

The strangest car I have ever owned was an 86 diesel Peugot. I loved that car until I got T bone in it. Not much for power, but it rode well, looked expensive and got great mileage.

However my current fixation is either a hybrid Civic or a Golf TDI with a 5 speed. I'm thinking of trading my F150 for either of these.

my favourite memories as a kid was my Grandad picking me up Wednesday afternoon to take me back to his place in his Dodge truck, with a load of fruit and veg. (He was a fruit and veg shop owner, and my sister was disabled, so I'd stay with him and Nan for a few days, Mum and Dad would pick me up Saturday....great stuff).

Anyway, a few years back, we were making weekly trips to Sydney (relative with cancer), and went past a Dodge travelall in really beat up condition.

So my unconventional vehicle plan was a dodge travelall with a Cummins.

It was a great plan at the time.

I have a great affinity for 5 door hatchbacks especially more upscale types. They are a rarity in the US.

Personally the new vehicles I have been eyeing are the Mazda 3 and 6 hatchbacks, Saab 9-2 (rebadged Subaru WRX), and I am hoping the Audi A3 (fancy Golf) makes it here that I saw in Ecuador. A real favorite of mine is the VW Golf 1.8T 4 door which is not available anymore.

Car 1: '94 Miata w/ aftermarket turbo kit. ~220rwhp, 0-60 in about 5.5s. Total cost (car+mods) less than $20k. Find another performance convertible with numbers like that

Car 2: 1987 Audi 4000 quattro. Normally aspirated inline 5, cool motor sounds. Full time all wheel drive with center and rear air-locking differentials (totally factory setup!). Allows anyone to drive like a rally hero in the snow. I bought it with 67k miles, eBay, $1550. These vehicles are known to go to 250k easy, so this one is going to be really cheap to run for a looong while

Maintenance can be quirky, but **** - so can I.

1996 Corvette LT-4 convertible, ~300 rwhp, 0-60 in under just 5 seconds. Stock as a stove.

Purchase price, a hair under $20k

OTOH, I don't get to surprise people like you do. Sounds like your car has lot bigger giggle factor than mine does. It also wouldn't draw as much attention as mine, another point in your favor.

Never saw it, but that would be my idea of a dream-car.

I saw it, it was quite few years ago. I recall that it was one of their "Boss Wagon" projects.

A friend had a Buick Roadmaster wagon that was basically just a tarted up Caprice Wagon of the same era. The Buick stood out even more than the Caprice, and wasn't a bad looking car as big wagons go.

'94 Taurus SHO..220HP Yamaha engine..get's the kids around pretty quick! Downside is these years of Taurii are maintenance hogs..add in an engine that was only put in these cars and it makes it even trickier. Still love the car though.

I like Real Dodge Powerwagons (Military or Civilian). Especially if they have had a Diesel Conversion... Slant 6 Mopars... and Saabs....

However my newest is a Ford Focus so I must be slipping.
