Anyone else had a Hyundai Theta II engine replacement?

I have 252k on my 2012 Sonata 2.4. I'm still waiting on the engine to blow!
I THINK the older ones didn't/don't have the same issues, at least not nearly as common if I remember correctly. Somewhere around 2014/15 they made some slight changes I believe, in both design and manufacturing. Is yours a GDI? I know mine, a 2015 model year, was a complete redesign, but other than some tweaks, the engines were pretty similar.

Not a Theta II but this problem seems to plague a lot of H/K 4 cylinders. Here's a 2024 K5 with a blown 1.6T at 90k miles. Second owner so 10/100 doesn't apply. Engine itself is $11k before labor. Car is basically a total loss at 2 years old.

Yes, it's a GDI motor. It has been an excellent vehicle for my family and father who bought it CPO with 5k miles on it. I short trip it to work 2 miles each way from my house...

90k miles in two years. What were the OCI's? I bet way too long. 45k miles per year, is 3750 miles per month. No way that car got the oil changed monthly.

If those are mostly all highway miles (and you'd think they'd almost have to be) the argument could be made longer intervals could apply as long as a good, high quality synthetic oil is used in the engine isn't just downright abused. Also, frequent oil level checks are done to ensure no oil is being used, or if it is (not excessively so) it's being topped off. I'd probably not push it past 5,500 miles even with that though. With it being a turbo though (something I don't have and don't have to worry about) 5,500 might be too long possibly. That could change things a bit.
