related tangent: cheaper feed corn (not using ethanol as a vehicle fuel) = cheaper beef.
So, as usual from "up there", it's a big nothingburger. All regular gas that is pipelined all over the country starts out as 84 octane. Add 10% ethanol. and guess what you get 87 oct. Add 5% more and viola, you get 88 octane. The rule simply allows E15 to be sold year-round when before it could not be sold during the summer months due to volatility. It does not replace E10.
The scaremongering over this is ridiculous. A number of people seem to think that E10 pumps will suddenly become E15 pumps without changing the pump labeling. That's what all the fuss has been about, and selling E15 as E10 would violate federal and state labeling laws on fuel pumps.
My yard equipment is all battery-powered now except my 20-year old Hustler zero-turn. I do use 10% ethanol in it though I always add that Sta-Bil product that supposedly neutralizes the ethanol. Seems to work or my mower doesn't care. I've left fuel in the carb over the winter a couple times too and it's been fine. I did try to run it out once.... After 5-10 minutes of idling with the fuel valve closed, I gave up ! I was also told it's better to leave gas in there vs dry (though the folks saying that probably do use ethanol-free fuel.Yeah I go out of my way to buy ethanol-free gas for my equipment.
If I'm not mistaken, the EPA allows all gasoline to contain "up to" 10% ethanol. The pumps may or may not be required to be labeled that this is the content. I want to say they don't have to, but most stations still label it. 15% ethanol must be specifically labeled as such and some states actually regulate it's sale.I thought all the ethanol blends are "UP to" E10 or E15 which means it probably would be less Ethanol but may be up to.
We're seeing E88 or E15 more and more around here with all the new gas stations moving in.... I've told our daughter she can run it in her Civic and save some $.Sheetz typically prices E15 fifty cents a gallon less than E10
This brings to mind another thought. We're seeing E88 or E15 more and more around here with all the new gas stations moving in.... I've told our daughter she can run it in her Civic and save some $.
Thanks for the post. I don't want the Canadians to get excited. There is no more E0. By Federal mandate it is now E05 minimum and the Provinces can make that a higher number.Yeah I go out of my way to buy ethanol-free gas for my equipment.

Yeah right lolrelated tangent: cheaper feed corn (not using ethanol as a vehicle fuel) = cheaper beef.
Seeing this locally. Seems like "ARCO" is the trendy franchise to buy into nowadays....What's up with all of the new indie gas stations going up throughout the state?
Remember, they're not gas stations anymore, they're convenience stores that also sell fuel. A small (12 oz ?) coffee at Speedway is $1.99 now !!what's the economic incentive beyond selling pop and potato chips at exorbitant markups?
I know there must be one.
There is 10% less energy in ethanol - just physics. So another 5% drops it by another 1/2 of one percent in energy in your tank. That can vary with car.
my turbo jeep was within the noise (no noticeable difference) between e10 and e15
I rarely fill up the subaru with e15 as I have another $600 in rewards gasoline which is e10 top tier (and used another $300 in rewards gas this year already)
but the few times I did on trips it returned the expected mpg.. driving into a 5-10mph wind affected my gas mileage more than e15.
93(e10) and 90 e0 are $1 to 1.25$ more per gallon so even with better mpg it would never make sense.
to pay 33% more to get 5-10% better fuel economy-- if that
Very popular brand out west. I am surprised to see them popping up in your area?Seeing this locally. Seems like "ARCO" is the trendy franchise to buy into nowadays....
I paid way more than that last time - I think Wawa was $2.99. I just stopped. I will do McDonalds if there is no line, or just hit starbucks - in for a dime in for a dollar.Remember, they're not gas stations anymore, they're convenience stores that also sell fuel. A small (12 oz ?) coffee at Speedway is $1.99 now !!
All my gas powered lawn equipment and my 4 stroke outboard get only ethanol free gas. My 2007 Grand Cherokee is Flex-Fuel but has only ever seen 10% ethanol gasoline.Yeah I go out of my way to buy ethanol-free gas for my equipment.

Flex fuel engines will add timing due to the higher octane. My LS 6.0s like it, means go faster! To the next gas station!!Any engines out there that will adjust their timing to take advantage of 88 vs 87 Octane? I know that some Chevy LS engines especially some of the 6.2 liter engines recommended 93 octane and could adjust the timing to take advantage of it. They will also run on 87 so could 88 help with making up for the theoretical loss in gas mileage?

My 2008 6.0 in my 3/4 ton Suburban is not an actual Flex engine. Are yours actually Flex?Flex fuel engines will add timing due to the higher octane. My LS 6.0s like it, means go faster! To the next gas station!!![]()
Same deal in Rhode Island. Have to buy VP fuel in a bucket.Unfortunately there are none even remotely close to me in California. I'll have to run racing fuel to avoid the e15 trash
