Any cheap / free ideas to cool a garage?

All that cool air being pulled in, needs a place to go, and it sounds like it's going straight up and out the roof.

Doesn't make sense though. The cooler damp air should be heavier that the hot air at the ceiling and that should go out the vent first.

You're right about the rest. You direct where you want the cool air to go with open windows.

Has anyone suggested moving?

I had a whole house fan would pull air into the house and exhaust into the attic came with the house when I purchased it. A year later I had central air installed removed the attic fan and repaired the ceiling. I then installed it at the peak of the attached garage wall side so it exhausted out of the gable vent which I enlarged. Exhaust the hot air out with a nice constant breeze. My garage is my shop it's tight but all I have. I noticed if I just open the bottom of the door about a foot nice up flow breeze the more you open less of a breeze.

I meant from your personal fan situation in the breezeway, I believe you found an excellent resolution to cooling off!

There are contractors that can inject foam insulation between the wall studs.

This would be a huge help.........but with a huge cost.

Correct, the only benefit of a fan is if it blows on you, allowing your perspiration to evaporate faster and providing a cooling affect to your body.

The only way to get below ambient is some sort of mechanical cooler whether it be DX or evaporation.

Then how do you explain wind chill?
