I would muchly appreciate it if you could share your experiences with your vehicles, especially if it's the 3.9 litre version with Active Fuel Management (2007+ I reckon). I've read a few posts by people who have shared their initial opinions on the vehicle, but I'm more interested in hearing what long term ownership is like.

The Impala is not officially sold by GM in the Middle East (although parts are available), they have the Australian Lumina and Caprice instead, which is due to be sold to police fleets in the US. But a friend of mine is looking at a '07 LT (US grey import) and we've both been rather impressed. I was pretty impressed by its handling and acceleration, as well as build quality. Steering column felt a bit on the cheap side, but otherwise it seems very well put together.

Since 1999. The Lumina is a re-badged left hand drive Holden Commodore:

The Caprice is a Holden Statesman:

Exactly. An Impala with the 3.9 (as you are describing) is the cars that our local police investigators drive, the fire chief drives. These folks don't get police package units (designated as 9C1 or 9C3).

I've driven many as rental (fleet) units, with both the 3.5 and the 3.9. I've been pleased with the power and performance of both engines. I personally think that the smaller 3.5 provides performance at a level that would please most any driver, and delivers 30+ mpg on the interstate.

The Illinois State Police are using Impalas (9C1 and 9C3) as well.

The 3.9 is what they use in the police package, although the police engine may be modified over the one used in civilian units.

Thanks very much for all the input!

Unibody.

There is a ex rental Impy (07) 3.9 owned now by a local owner of a bodyshop who I talk to. Many times He will drive his customers around or just loan it out...

Anyways, it has 126k on it now, and still runs like a top....

If GM would get their (act) together, I'd look at another gm whenever we trade in our '03 Impala. I like the two above. :)

My SIL has had them for her company cars since ~2006 and puts 50-60K miles per year on them without any fuss. Fit/finish and interior quality isn't the best, but not horrible either.
