The model I cut open was a PH3980
Sounds like another cost cutting measure. Somebody got a bonus for saving 0.0025 per filter. My grandpa would be really dissapointed. I remember as a kid in his garage looking at all the Fram filters on the shelf (Pre-Honeywell).
my grandfather is the same, I change the oil in his cars now since he is elderly. He still has some frams from his old Ford LTD and Chevy cars made by the old company. He questions me when I put AcDelco and Supertechs in his truck. It is sad that such a low quality filters is sold for so much. People see the orange can and legions of their products everywhere they figure and assume it is a quality product. Maybee 30 years ago it was a quality product but today it is low end, overprices, garbage. The Supertech or Ecore design is cheaper and better built than the frams. I know many will disagree with me but fiber end caps are not bad, use and cut open a Ecore. You will see how well they hold up, unlike fram filters.
Another thing, people here think that frams are fine and people bash them just to bash them. Wrong, frams in my experience are garbage. They fall apart during short OCI's. I am not saying that they ALL fall apart but they do more than I would like. Like I have said before I have seen at a number of them with after use defects, disconnected end caps, ADBV that was not connected to filter, Leaf spring disconnected prior to removing media from can, imploded media ( and they have "steel" center cage.) Frams should be priced lower than 3 dollars. But, some of us have no choice. I only have access to OCOD for my Jeep, unless I drive 35 miles away to a different wal-mart. I refuse to pay 7 dollars for a NAPA gold and I refuse to give money to pep-boys.
