After reading this thread, I bought a PH3387A with the groceries at Wally's, cut it open, and saw no glaring defects -- it was rather unremarkable, really.

I still don't care for the "engineered media" end caps or the thin can, but that's just personal preference.

I found a cache of AC Delco pre-Ecore PF47's and I'm in the process of draining the inventory at that location, as my budget permits.
 
It was Nylon, btw. Working molten temp of 550F required for extrusion/injection. More than a match for engine temps. Very hard. Naturally, it has its limits for abrasive wear.

The question you SHOULD be asking: "Why is FRAM the only company that needs to defend its filters?"
 
Looks like the Wix was the best made of the bunch. Everyone you talk to seems to swear by them.
