Priming (pre-filling) the filter or not should have no bearing on helping to causing media tearing.

The torn filters spreadsheet hasn't been updated for over a year or more. After the count hit 50 or 60 torn Purolator made filters, it was pretty much accepted by most that there was a problem going on.

My P1 that tore was primed. The filter mounts vertically on the LS4 and I always fill it up before installing. The Pure 1 was just a junky filter from a company that lost it's way. It was not made to last over 3k miles and some lasted less. Hopefully the company has improved the new line.
