Another GR86 blown and warranty denied

No replacement for displacement 🏁

They should not allow 2.4L on any track. Also no little turbo engines on track, they are for zigzagging @ 30-50mph on busy highways and annoying other drivers.
That's probably one of the most myopic posts I've ever seen about cars on a track. Clearly, you've never done a track day, or you have and been passed by someone in a 1.6L Miata.

Toyota didn’t know what they were getting into with this either-

Maybe I’m old school, you don’t but track cars, you build them. Drivers here are not one size fits all……..
In my opinion they’re theoretically perfect cars (other than the whole rapid unscheduled engine disassembly thing) for someone who wants to dip their toes into HPDE/AutoX or doesn’t have a ton of time to devote to building one from the ground up and just wants to have safe legal fun with their vehicle.

:ROFLMAO:

Once in a while my wife reminds me that I have some or many blind spots especially when I make ANY sort of comments about the Democrats.

Sometimes we are driving or she is driving and one of these little engines that could is zigzagging ... and 15 minutes later is right behind us or next to us and we pass ... I say didn't he pass us like twice already? She says the third pass is coming.

I really don't care if they pass me.
My wife on the other hand gets upset if she is going the speed limit or 5mph over and someone passes her on a double-yellow (no passing lines). I tell her not a problem, let him/her be the lead car and you can follow or go a little faster without getting a speeding ticket. Just check your rear-view mirrors more often to cover your ace! However, I never win that argument because "it's NOT legal to pass on double-yellow!"

btw, I hate Miatas for a different reason. Co-worker had a convertible and we used to go to lunch once in a while and you can't see nothing if you are behind any car or truck ... plus it was annoyingly noisy when on highway even with the top up! Never owned any convertible and never will unless if I move to CA and not have to go any faster than 40mph. Another little engine that could.

Anyway, I missed a :ROFLMAO: at the end of my "myopic" post. And sometimes I like to get under people's skin! lol

I mean if people like to track and redline their little TGDI on a hot summer day, it's their prerogative but please use a very high HTHS oil. None of these thin stuff. :alien:🏁

Really?

Vettes with their spanky 6 piston calipers with brake fade on factory unmodified brakes in the wall.

Personally saw a brand new WRX STI pancake into a wall when the factory, unmodified brakes wouldn't slow him down into turn 12 at Road Atlanta.

Those are factory cars drivers that couldn't 'handle themselves' on the track. All that I have personally seen, mostly all at Road Atlanta.

Fixed that for you. The 6 pots on Corvette/Camaro are very capable when properly equipped.

Regardless of car the driver needs to listen and be in tune with their cars, everything is in flux and can bite at any moment (Tires, brakes .. etc).

Really?

Plenty of LS1's in the junkyard from oil starvation on the track in unmodified form.

So yes, if you're not willing to sacrifice your car to the track gods, don't go on the track.
See, those are failures that should be (at least some of them) warranty items, especially if they occur during an HPDE. I'm not talking about racing, I'm talking about normal people with their Amazon.com helmets on track. Brake fade and oil starvation are absolute failures of the OEM, especially when we're talking about OEM (or close to) tires.

Hell, my 1986 Cabriolet made it two laps around the 'Ring with nothing but some brake fade towards the end. Well that, and oil temps getting up close to 300F. (That was my fault - don't install a supercharger without an oil cooler.) Same thing with my '06 MINI S - brake pads is all it needed.

The fact that some companies can sell "normal" cars that are track capable and other companies sell "track cars" that exploded when pushed slightly points directly to dishonest marketing of a subpar product and they should be held accountable.

Sure there is...a Wuhan Whirliboi! 1.8L station wagon says get out of my way Mustang and 911!

Junk because of this one issue?
Do you mean because it is blowing engines like this? Yes.
GR86 was one of the most anticipated cars by the tracking/racing community. And it is awful, ON TRACK. It is targeted at that community and advertised for that community. And can't do anything for what is apparently designed.

On the other hand, the old adage of 'don't take a car to the track that you're not willing to walk away from' rings true. If you can afford to/don't want to blow it up, crash it, scratch it, or destroy it, don't take it to the track.

This is why I so badly miss my 91 Miata. You could pound on that thing for days on end and it didn't care. It wasn't the fastest thing, but those cars were built to run forever and be fun while doing it.
This is why I like Nissan's Z line so much!
You can pound on them day after day.

Sure you may need an aftermarket oil cooler for the 09-12 model years , or frequent brake replacements in the 04-06 non track models.
but those are easily addressed and everything else will be fine.

Also the dealerships were generous with coverage:

I once brought a 2005 Z into the dealer.
Just ever so slightly out of warranty.
Had track stickers and racing graphics all over (it was a club racer, but not the "Track" trim), aftermarket supercharger, big brake kit, etc etc.
The shifter was a bit notchy fron 2nd to 3rd (known issue in the community for some for 04 and 05 model years.)

The dealership could have easily said:

a) "You are 500 miles out of warranty, no deal"
b) "hey its compeltly drivable nothing is broken, we have no obligation to repair " or
c) "this is obviously a heavily modified and heavily tracked car, no deal"

All they said was
"if you want a new transmisison we'll give you one, even though you are out of warranty. there is an advisory out for those 04/05 syncros so we can use that to get you good-willed"
I was like:
" how cool is that, you dont mind its been heavily tracked" (I mean the car literally had Laguna Seca and other courses in outlines on the rear fender)
"No we dont care, its sold as a sports car, we'll give you a new tranny if you want it."

Contrast this to so many other brands.
That made me the Nissan Fanboy I am today.

PS:
Funny this is it didnt even need a new tranny the issue was pretty minor, and I was busy enough with a looming divorce at the time I never bothred to have them put ina new transmisison.
Worked fine for many years until I sold the car to another Nissan fan.
