another funny "just add oil" story

I'm kinda hoping the Toyota 0w20 I'm running in it now will clean the rings up and lessen the consumption.

Patman - you have been around this site for a long time so I assume you have tried changing the PCV valve?

Some cant see the forest thru the trees. There are specific reasons bitogers are anal about their vehicle maintenance as nothing but the best will suffice and this results in like-new appearance and functionality. Making the assumption that this 93' Metro is at the peak of it's game since it still drives forward and backward and starts every time in the broad picture, equates to absolutely nothing. If a vehicle makes it to 250k does it stand to reason that at the very least the vehicle held up long enough to get to that point, however it without a doubt does not mean the vehicle is at maximum efficiency? I guarantee you it is not.

I actually attempted to do it on my last oil change but could not get the other end of it out of the tube, so I decided not to risk breaking something. I realize the PCV could account for some of the consumption but do you guys think it might actually be the sole reason for the sudden spike in consumption that this engine started having at 80k?

Could be, or maybe most likely since consumption started quickly. Honda's do tend to burn oil though, some of the older ones at my autocross races do smoke abit with highrevs and chopping the throttle creating alot of vacuum.

OMG, 5W20 kills engines!

But seriously, I saw 0 oil consumption in my corolla until I decided to keep oil half way between the F/E marks rather than full. I read that it gives better MPG (on Prius forums). It could be just a coincidence, but I will never do it again.

I was afraid people might think I was saying that!

But truth be told, the previous interval in her car was with GTX 5w20 and it didn't consume any oil with that (although later when I switched back to GTX 5w20 it continued consuming oil)
