Amsoil has more synthetic lubricants than anyone in the world, thus it is difficult to stock everything and I don't think anyone does. I think there are more than 24 motor oils alone at last count, plus all the gear and transmission lubes. Some want 7500 mile oil, some want 25,000 mile oil, some want 35,000 mile oil.

Not sure that is a good thing. I'd rather them streamline their product line a bit personally. Sometimes quality suffers when you start selling too many products.

Tim - well written. Thanks

buster - not necessarily so, there may be some limit where quality suffers but I doubt that number is under 50. Amsoil still doesn't have enough products to satisfy all customers!

I use Amsoil products. I am lucky that I can actually walk to the dealer's house. I like Amsoil products and figure they will be cost effective in the long run (ha-ha made a funny!)

"No one was selling Amsoil for $1.85/qt and not taking a loss. I know the price structure and all commercial accounts get the same price, regardless of size. There are pretty nice discounts for volume, but not THAT nice"

LOL, I didn't say for today's market. There have been so many price increases in the past few years. But, this was posted several years ago, and I rememeber the price was startlingly low, yes even at $1.85/qt. I've tried to "search" but as usual on this site, got nowwhere.

OK, so how low can a large commercial account pay for Amsoil oil?

Contact a site sponsor. Commercial accounts can get their first order in a week or two once the paper work is submitted. Next order should only take a few days. You pay with credit card or COD (about $10 extra). A net 30 day account can be set up with credit approval that takes about a month.

Its weird, the rules must be different between Canada and the US. In Canada, you can now find Amsoil at a number of huge retail chains. From Canadian Tire (Canadian version of Walmart) , Part Source, Peavey Mart. At least where I live, Amsoil seems to be easier to get then many other synthetics. I am not positive, but I could swear I saw Amsoil in Walmart. I will have to check next time I am there.

AMSOIL is in Canadian Tire. But it sure is not at Walmart.
After the deal with CTC AMSOIL changed the policy to 12 stores max. Partsource is a division of CTC. Peavey Mart??? never heard of them.

Tim - I'm not talking about normal individual accounts. I'm not making this up, Amsoil was supplying a school district or something to that effect. The municipality got a huge markdown on their purchases of Amsoil products. This arrangement is/was apparently for bulk buyers who either negotiate the price, or just get a significantly reduced price, that is not available to other retail customers (e.g., individuals) who buy based on the suggested retail, or preferred customer prices. I am not even suggesting there is anything at all wrong with this arrangement, but it does/has existed, and you can understand why it is not talked about. Amsoil has to keep the prices "up," because there are a lot of slices of the pie going to different parties, to make their system work.

jbas - it could have been that price a LONG time ago (20+ years ago). I believe you did read it, but there is a ton of weblore out there, as you well know.

Also - if you think Amsoil has a of lot prices (really there are only 3!) Try traditional oil sales - wow talk about channel protection. And don't get me started on international sales - it's simply amazing. I've learned a lot in the last few months about international motor oil distribution. What mess that is. We have some pretty good prices on all brands of motors oil in the USA, let me tell you.

Jbas - I guess I don't understand your question. There is only one Commercial Price List, which is the lowest price list available. There is no negotiating from this. I have one Commercial Account that has 2400 vehicles and they use the same price exact list as my Commercial Account that has 1 vehicle. The larger the container, the more you save. The more you order, the less the shipping cost per pound is.

Tim do you know if Amsoil custom formulates for any racing teams? Reason I ask is because one of the Amsoil tech staff mentioned that to me one time. I know the big oil companies do.

Pablo, one thing Amsoil has done as they have grown is maintain their quality. I give them credit for doing that. Mobil 1 has gone down in quality. IMO.

Jbas

Your infomation is inaccurate, IMO. All accounts like this would go thru a dealer, Amsoil does not make special deals that are not available to all commerical customers in the way of volume discount up to a max of 10% on order over $15g.

Buster - as far as I know Amsoil does not make any custom formulas for race teams. I co-sponsored one last year and they just used off the shelf Amsoil. But if one of the Amsoil Corporate Staff says they do, then I suppose it is possible. I've heard Amsoil does offer some specialized grease blends for certain customers.

I've also heard than whenever a big NASCAR or other race comes to a town near one of the 12 warehouses in the US, they nearly sell out of Amsoil's race oils.

Shell used to send a lubricant engineer to pit crew with the Shell Ferarri Team and that they use oils not available to the public. I think this may be common practice with the large oil companies.

GI Joes has sales from time to time where they advertise "ANY sythetic oil $3.99 quart". Didn't matter what bottle you grabbed off the shelf as long as it said synthetic. This was the time to load up on amsoil products.

LOL!! Since I've been challenged...I will attempt to find out the TRUTH! But first, let Pablo and Stefanik come on here and tell us there is NO negotitated prices or huge discounted prices by Amsoil with large bulk buyers, including muni's. That you and I can't get! These guys know a bunch of things and let's get their public statements on this one way or another, and then I'll take it from there. If I misread this awhile back, then I'm wrong (and I'll say so!).

I have been selling AMSOIL simce 1993 and this is the first time I have heard of this low of a price or that AMSOIL personally sell to a customer without going through a dealer first.
The Commercial Price is the lowest cost for AMSOIL products and like Mike said you can get 10% off with an order over $22,000.00 here in Canada and $15,000.00 in the U.S.
Dealers get 10% off when purchasing over $9400.00 in Canada and $7500.00 in the U.S.
I always purchase over $9400.00 when I place an order. I have for some time now placed my orders on their web site.
When placing orders for 75 to 90 products it's fast and easy. I don't have to wait on the phone to get an order taker. I can also place the order the night before at my conveniance.
AMSOIL is getting better at making it easier to do the business.
Off to Tornto this morning to pick up an order.
You guys behave OK!!

I thought I had stated it earlier. There are only three price structures and some discounts for volume. Under $2 per quart never happened in recent history that I know of.

I mean it may be possible that someone is a buddy of Al's and buttered him up.............naw Al's not that kind of guy.
