I just changed the spark plugs on my Subaru (need to be somewhat acrobatic to do), and, when finished, I thought I'd check the front transaxle fluid level...like it would have actually changed from the previous 20 times I've checked it the past couple of months. Anyway, I got a drop or two of the AmSoil Severe Gear 75-90 on my fingers, and it instantly removed all the grease, grime, antiseize, dirt from my fingers. I mean instantly! If it weren't so expensive and so foul-smelling, I'd use it to clean up with after wrenching. It must keep the inside of that transaxle spotless!

"Titan any GL-5 gear will do the same thing"

I would have to disagree somewhat with this statement. Many years of servicing and repairing/rebuilding diffs has me convinced that most dino GL-5 gear oils have a much more limited life than a quality synthetic fluid and that the synthetics will keep your diff housing and components much cleaner. The housing and all components, except actual contact areas such as gear teeth, are usually covered with a black film in as few as 15k miles, of course depending on how hot it was run due to heavy loads, ambient temps, etc. The syn fluids do much better under stressful conditions, keeping things cleaner and protected for a longer time. I really like the Amsoil and Redline fluids. I'm sure there are other good ones, and have heard about, but not tried the Schaeffers gear oils. Years ago I used Mobil 1 and never had a problem in a differential. Bottom line- I can say from experience that a quality synthetic is worth the cost, from my point of view.
