Has anyone noticed how much Ammo costs lately?? Seems like the good old days of cheap surplus ammo is nearly gone. Just to buy a box of regular .45 or even .40 ball ammo to shoot at the range is almost $20! I've gotten some great deals at Cheaperthandirt.com and also been to the store in Fort Worth (which they say is NOT related to the website store), but even they are more expensive now.

So - where do you guys get the best deals?

Seems like Iraq is getting so much ammo, that prices are being driven up. My 9MM supplier complains that supplies are short. I'm saving my brass and reloading cast bullets for practice, and saving the Glasers, etc.

Natchez Shooters Supply often has decent deals, but you have to check online, because by the time you receive their catalog and go online to order, they're sold out!

You can do better than $20 per 50 of .45 FMJ!

High copper prices = high ammo prices and stolen electrical wiring.

Correct - Cheaper than dirt has them around $13/box.

I was pretty shocked myself when I took a look at some of the mail order places I used to order from years ago.

Gun shows have these big discount ammo dealers, but even their prices are higher than Wal-Mart on some calibers and bullet weights.

It was nice when Midway had free shipping. Especially when they had a sale on a case of Winchester USA 5.56mm for $200.

CCI bluebox $32/brick
American Eagle .223 $45/100
7.62x54R surplus (Albanian. 680 rd/case) $306
9mm Browning $65/100

Prvi Partizan new mil calibre ammo $1 plus per shot

Shotshell componets have gone through the roof. 25 lb bags of shot are now at least $37. 209 win. primers are $25+ per 1k. Wallyworld shotshell prices have went up over 20% in the last couple of months.

If you like the smaller gauges like I do(28ga is my favorite for skeet) reloading is the only way to go. I was lucky enough to buy 60 boxes of AA 28ga for less than $5 a box when Sports Authority had all their ammo at 50% off. I believe it's only going to get worse as prices rise and componets get in short supply.

Agreed - with all your reponses. Thanks. I remember going to gun shows in the 90's and buying 1000rd cases of 7.62x39 for my SKS and AK47's (semi-auto clone that is!) for $99. You could get American Eagle or UMC .357 for $8/box.

Back then I also remember must oil was $1 a quart!
Times change I suppose...

Anyone bought any brass lately? The prices seem to be creeping up a little every week and some calibers you cant even get brass for right now unless you get lucky at an auction site...

With the dollar at a all time low. Bidding and buying surplus overseas has also made it more expensive. Days of cheap ammo are behind us.

60 litres of range scrap and my club made nearly $700 earlier.

It's gotten so good that the local monuments are having their plaques pilfered for scrap value.

I went to the rifle range the weekend before New Year's day (first time in about 6 years). It took me a while to figure out why they were running an unattended cement mixer under one of the canapies.

The close to 200 5-gallon buckets surrounding the mixer finally tipped me off. They were cleaning brass.

True, even my old standby places like cheaper than dirt.com is always sold out of the .223 that I want.

Ive seen the best prices on .223 and everything else at recent gunshows. Considering postage costs, their ammo had decent prices and you can walk away with it in hand. Iam pretty well stocked up for the impending Zombie attacks, but I always buy more when I see a good price, like oil. Sportsman guide is ussually my biggest source of surplus ammo.

I miss the gun show prices of the mid-90's.

$3.75/box for Winchester USA 5.56 NATO. Good, accurate plinking ammo at a killer price.

I bought a case of 50 boxes from Midway for $200 shipped, back when Midway didn't charge for shipping. I haven't even opened the crate yet.

You guys hoard oil......I hoard ammo.
