I think it is ridiculous that movie, tv and sports stars are so praised in our country. They all get paid tons of money to act or play a sport. It's a shame that real heroes in our country, like the military, police, fire and EMS people get no praise or fame.
The best part of Scary Movie 4 was where they spoofed that moron spazzing out on (also way overpaid) Oprah's show.

My girlfriend thrives on that crap. Heaven forbid that I click away from E! to another channel. That's why there are two TVs going on in the house.
The way I watch the news, is that I take note of the lead story. If it's something benign like President Bush meeting with leaders in auto manufacturing, I know there was no news that day. If they talk about a 6.3 earthquake in Indonesia, then there's something to watch.
My dad was a news junkie -- not the celebrity kind, but he always watched local and world news... at 6 and 11, every evening. This was a result of his living in Lithuania during the War. News was golden back then. I once played a good joke on him to prove how unimportant most news is. I had a half hour of news taped and stashed away. About a half year later I played it without him noticing he was watching a rerun. He didn't catch on until the weather came on and he was watching a forecast high of 25 and a low of 12. This was in August. He turned to me, smiled, and asked, "Is this your doing?" My dear sweet dad loved practical jokes like that.

Never ever underestimate the ignorance of the average American.

Reminds me of how Mike Myers' character in "So I Married an Axe Murderer" went off on his mom for calling her tabloid trash "The Paper"!
The only thing that keeps me going is my belief that there is a solid core of people who have their priorities straight...you just don't see them because they're busy.
As far as actors go, I'm amazed at how we elevate people who make millions PRETENDING TO BE BETTER PEOPLE THAN THEY REALLY ARE.
As for celebrity "who cares?", can you say BRANGELINA? In the back of my mind is a funny thought that all these celebrities publicly hooking up probably have herpes.
The only thing that keeps me going is my belief that there is a solid core of people who have their priorities straight...you just don't see them because they're busy.

More and more I find myself turning off the TV. Have been just leaving it on with the sound turned down but even that got annoying. What passes for the news cycle, celebrity or real world, from all outlets is depressing, demeaning, and predictable, imo. Same for the radio while in the car. Silence ain't all that bad. Somebody please email me if a Cat 5 heads this way. John Prine wrote and recorded a song called "Spanish Pipedream" on his first alblum. Chorus: "Blow up your TV, throw away your paper, go to the country, build you a home. Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find *****, on your own." Actually accomplished several of those recommendations but I should have listened more closely. Now where's my guitar?
When you're past your sell-by date (Michael and Janet Jackson, Tom Cruise, etc.), there's no such thing as 'bad PR.' Anything to keep people talking about you is good.

Common people! What are you expecting from this society? The average saving rate in this country is -2%, people go into retirement with less than $50000 and claim they will not change their life stile. GM place the future of the company on SUV business….
I can continue on and on, but to make story short, lets face it we do not want, or like to think, and this why these type of stories we love the most.
