I never heard of such a thing. I think Johnny was talking about a soluble Moly such as a dithio phosphate or carbamate.

Molakule, Bruce, Dupont, the German engineer in the other thread, and every other Lube Engineer that I have read from has no use for PTFE in a lubricant. It does make for a good grease thickener, however. TomNJ: I know your specialty is in esters, but I'd love to know your opinion on this.

The only people that seem to think it does anything are the ones that make PTFE products.

I have yet to see a firm theory on how it is supposed to help, and how it will stand up to abuse when it will crush at 150psi. The other thread is focused on non-engine use, but lubrication theory is lubrication theory.

Engines have pumps to circulate the oil. If PTFE would be good for any application, it should be this verses ordinary spray lube that has no built in agitator once on the target metal. This can even be seen in bottles of Break Free as the PTFE tends to settle out on the bottom of the bottle.
 
I am hoping I am shown to be in error with my hair trigger assumptions. As you know I am a big fan of the Schaeffers business and products. What about Penetro® Green H-1 190E?

I know that the specifics of the motor oils are labeled as proprietory in the MSDS but the specific mention of Penetro in the PDS what lead me down this path to find out what is in this Penetro penetrating oil is being added to the 7000 series as a friction modifier lead me to the PTFE in Penetro labeled products. (Specifically I was Looking for Cyclohexanone off of Gmorg's hunch but that was a miss)
Does the Penetro used in the motor oil contain PTFE/PTFE Fluropolymer?

Penetro green h-1 190 is a food grade penetrating fluid NSF approved. The formula of penetro is proprietary. Penetro was developed first...then 190...most recently h-1 penetro 190. The two are NOT the same. I guess you could say the 3 are not the same.
 
I understandm, I have nothing else and certainly meant no disrespect but had to ask the question when information I was able to find didn't seem logical.
One thing is for certain, we can't argue with the outstanding results that Schaeffers has shown. Whatever is in the proprietary additve pack sure works well.

No such thing they all are soilds that are collodial is size and suspended in a carrier oil.
And ceflon sucks in cutting oils worse than moly or graphite.

Hi Tempest,

I have no independent data on PTFE performance, but the consensus of opinions from respected scientists I have read over the years is unfavorable. Its association with the name "Teflon" makes it ripe for exploitation by marketers, but confirmed and repeatable performance data in industry accepted tests appears thin.

For the formulating icons here, might I suggest that AN may only be 0.5% or less of the most current M1 products and used only as a pour point depressant (ppd). Which is consistent with cookie cutter formulating protocal since it blends well with GRP II and GRP III base oils.

I did not see TeeDub say ANYTHING about LC. Buster did the boys at LC torq you off recently ?

Thanks for the info Tom. We are all very lucky to have someone with your knowledge and experience on this board. I have learned much from your posts.
 
Let me state my position on LC one more time. I, along with many others on this board (most who aren't as vocal as I am) have not seen any benefit of LC IN FULL SYNTHETIC OILS. My position has always been that if I am spending $6> on an oil, I will run it as is. Thats all. I really don't care to discuss it any further. If it works for people, thats great. For me personally, if an oil can't make it to a desired drain interval, I'll drain the oil out sooner.

Who would recommend something they think would not work?? A person who would engage in that practice could be defined as either extremely passive aggressive, a shady salesperson, or a multifaceted saboteur.

I recall that "you know who" (I don't want to get him in anymore trouble) found a lot more than that in the Mobil 1 15W-50 and 10w30 EP he tested. It was described as a good slug of AN. So who is right? My head is spinning from contradictory information from various sources!
 
Nahhh!!! It's not contradictory! Its just Mobils weekly formulation change to whatever happens to be available to make the least expensive product.

yes you can but
Better to us a PMA PPD at .2-.3%.
