Pscholte: I think you could carry through on my idea and you seem to have the talent as you just displayed. I was singing the 12 days of Christmas but with oil. Somethin like:

12 bottles of GC
11 bottles of Delvac
10 bottles of M1
9 Super Tech Filters
8 bottles Chevron Supreme
7 ...


and an oil drain pan.

Anyway, you can see that I need too much help and maybe an expert like you can get it right. I put the GC at the top to entice you too.

Then after that there's "A Hundred Bottles of Oil on the Wall...."

Ayeee I have oil on the brain!

Anyone have an idea?

It would be bad if it were true. Molakule has posted about this before. Synthetic esters used in modern engine oils don't have hydroscopic issues.

So I take this to mean that an oil with a fair amount of esters (Delvac 1, GC 0W-30) would be a good oil to have in an engine if it's going to be sitting a few months without running?

Back on track here, I don't think anyone denies that a POE basestock or more of it is good under certain conditions/scenarios. I also think that most BITOG members would agree that RL doesn't seem to do that well at all based on BITOG UOA samples. I'm looking forward to seeing how long RL lasts in the 3MP test.

To MoleKule: Before this topic dies of old age, could I ask you to comment on my ester question? (Sorry if I'm ignorant of some past comments.) All I really want to know is if you think using an oil with a goodly ester percentage might be helpful in preventing corrosion/rust in an engine that sits all winter (4 to 5 months )? Thank you in advance for any help. pmt

Molekule is correct. I emailed Dave from RL and he said that the primary basestock used in RL is a POE. He didn't say it did or didn't use a PAO but it's obvious now that it's not all POE as MK has stated repeatedly. The wording they chose to use is confusing sometimes.

I think a HDEO PAO/ester oil like Amsoil AME, Redline Diesel, and Delvac 1 or similar products would be advantageous for long-term storage.
