Just changed the oil on my '04 Acura TL from Redline 5w-20 to Delvac 1. And, the engine seems to be a good bit noisier than before. A clicking noise comes from the cylinder heads now. I was surprised by this, thought a heavier oil would make the engine quieter. Any reason not to continue running it? Thanks.

While Delvac One 5w40 is a GREAT oil, (I pull 20-25k OCI's in a TDI application) I would definitely go to the Mobil One 5w20. You will probably lose MPG as a result of the switch to Delvac One 5w40. There is much less of a jump if your vehicle required a 5w30 and you went to the 5w40 Delvac One

I will go the new Mobil One 5w20 in my Honda Civic gasser, after I use up 80,000 miles worth of Mobil One 0w20!

Hey, if you dump it ...save it for some local BITOG'er

I find this a strange occurance in any engine so new. Is this "all the time" ..or just during warm up??

I would not dump it unless fuel economy is taxed to the point of making it cheaper to change it. I don't think that it will be any different though.

Do you have gauges or idiot lights? Any difference in pressure??

that clicking noise isn't a big issue. all of the TL's do it.

sewing machines i tells ya.

run it for a normal OCI and have a UOA done.

let the delvac do it's thing.

I suspect the owner's manual, at least, would state this is too heavy of an oil.

The engine--3.2L V6--has about 11800 miles on it. Using Redline 5w-20, and M1 0w-20 before that, I never noticed any racket coming from the engine. Even after 20 minutes of driving I still hear the clicking. It's not very loud, but I don't want to risk damage to the engine. I'll probably give it a few hundred miles to see if it quiets down.

The part I don't get is why you'd go from an XW-20 to an XW-40. If the motor ran just fine on 0W-20, why not stick with it or why not move up to a 0w30 and see how that works? I wouldn't make a 20 point jump.

Ah ..but what better way to realize the difference?? None of this placebo 'butt dyno' crap. Take a BIG SCOOP and feel the weight.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more,
Or close the wall up with our English dead
In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, conjure up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favored rage.
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect.

This is extreme full contact BITOG!!!

I think most bmw and acura engines sound like you describe... I know my BMW and my GF's acura do.

All oils are noiser then Redline. I am going to repeat. All oils are noiser then Redline! You went from a oil with over 600PPM of Moly, probably 1200-1800 PPM of Zink and who knows what else that is not API certified to an oil with no moly, about the same 1200 PPM of Zink and proably half the born and calcium of Redline as well.

We also know that all Exxon/Mobil synthetics are noiser then other brands!! I would not worry about the extra noise to be honest. We have not seen a bad UOA yet for Delvac-1 or M1 TSUV! I say leave it alone and let UOA be you guide!! It is a 5W40 and will casue you no harm at all!! Heck we have a Toyota Prius Hybrid UOA on here running 15W40 and it looked fine! You are not risking anything!

Is there any benefit in running a 15w40 in hybrid. Would that be better protection just curious.

I've own Toyota's in the early 80's and early 90's. I did like the thicker oil when it reached a certain mileage or a straight mono grade either a 30wt or 40wt in my driving conditions. I used Delo when it first came out. With todays Toyota's, would that be a benefit?

416Rigby, Now that's a man's cartridge right their. If you really want it quite all you need to do is replace the insane amounts of additives that Redline has in it. You might consider Specialty Formulations SX-UP!! 4-6 onces of that and you will probably not hear a thing!

I recently switched from M1R to Syntec 10W40 and it was noiser with the Syntec 10W40. I added 4 onces of SX-UP and she quited right down. Now my car was makeing all of it's usual sounds but they were a bit louder then with the M1R. M1R is like Redline in that it has an insane amount of additives and is not API approved. The Castrol Syntec is API aproved and has les the half the additives of M1R. So by adding in some more Moly,Boron,Antimony,Zink etc.... It instantly quited back down. I understand your concern but I think it is misplaced! I am guessing you are actualy just hearing normal valvetrain noise. I run Redline from time to time and my engine is so quite with Redline that I can not hear it inside the car! So I know where you are comeing from!

I have run Redline 5W40 down to -18F in a 03 2.4 Camry! It started and ran just fine no noise. Now I have not run 5W40 TSUV yet but have some stocked away for next winter!

Thanks for the replies. The reason I tried Delvac 1 was because of the high praise it gets. Thought I was missing out on something special. Guess I'll let it do it's job until the next oil change. I knew Redline was a good cleaner, but I didn't realize it had so many additives in it.
As for the .416, it is indeed a man's cartridge. 4 rounds of it, and you'd believe that Mike Tyson wailed on you! .375H&H feels weak afterwards.

I do not have a problem with recoil. I am so deeply concentrateing on my shot and follow through that I am not even aware of the recoil. I only get mild bruiseing when I am bech rest shooting with large magnums all day long. Even then it is only at the begining of summer after that my body gets used it.

In all fairness I am 6'2" and bult like an old school lumber jack. I have enough muscle mass to mediate the recoil. My brother in law on the other hand is 5'6" and 140lbs and watching him shoot a little 300 Win Mag. is scary. He had bad bruiseing Black and blue after a few rounds. He looks like he is getting kicked by a mule!

I have always wanted to shoot some of those old English guns with #2 Bore #4 Bore etc.... seems like it would be fun

My Father in law has a Safari in South Africa comeing up in September I think. He normaly hits 3-4 states in the USA and Canada this is his first trip to Africa. I wish I was going with him.
