Hi all: In my zealous nature to keep my 2015 Corolla clean of winter salt, I washed it yesterday including the plastic floor mats that go on top of the OEM floor mats. Another family member put the driver floor mat in today but apparently had it partially over the gas pedal so on thereby partially depressing it so upon cold start (about 30F today in the garage) the car started at a moderate to high throttle with quite a puff of smoke. The car drives fine and I think things are OK but it still bothers me. Does the board think serious wear occurred during this event? In my favor (I think) were:
1. car had been started yesterday so engine surfaces were recently wetted with oil
2. I've been using recommended Toyota 0-20W synthetic oil which I think would be really thin at cold temperature and flow and protect quickly
3. car has 30k miles on so is probably completely broken in
4. car was shut down within 3 seconds or so
5. car is well maintained, never abused and I'm sure this won't happen again!

In testing engines go from freezing (negative temps) to full power (speed and load) within seconds over and over to ensure that the engine is reliable. Is something like this ideal? No. Will it have any measurable impact on the engine? No.

As long as you had a good dino 20W50 in it,the thick oil film will protect the engine from damage.

Haha just kidding :P I remember years ago when I had my 3000GT,I got in it to start it,pushed in the clutch, pushed in what I thought was the brake, but instead was the accelerator, started her up,and that thing instantly went to redline! I swear I literally had a heart attack!!

So yeah, your car will be AOK

I'll trade you the 05 Matrix for it which has ALWAYS had the proper starting procedure performed(real careful like).

Remember Colorado is a Pot legal state and with the city they call Mile High
It has increased their tourism a lot with Nebraska complaining about stopping them leaving for being high

You should hear the big generators at the charter building across the street from my work. When the power goes out they fire up after sitting months and go up to whatever rpm immediatly

Any one wonder why it is called DOPE ?

They usually have block heaters on so they never have a real cold start. Seeing and hearing one of those big Cats come to life is something.

If its as good as most cars idiot light systems the damage is done by the time it reacts?

Eh, they say to idle for 30 sec and go no matter what temp. This happened once, Im sure some wear was involved but its so small who cares.
