Someone local has some sealed oil containers on Marketplace. I was intrigued by some 0w20 acDelco that says it’s a synthetic blend and meets dexos. He has a few for 5$ (cad) a quart. Anything I can find about acDelco 0w20 calls it full synthetic. Wouldn’t mind grabbing them to add to whatever 5l jug I buy for my Tacoma. I’m guessing they’re fairly old though? Appreciate any info you guys may have and thanks in advance! (Side note what’s Quakerstate 4x4? Maybe I’ll grab that just to have something vintage on the shelf)

It’s too old. It’s not worth the risk of using degraded motor oil. If the anti foam additives have had molecular deterioration the oil will not be able to provide a separation and you will harm your engine. If other additives have fallen out of suspension it will not prevent oxidation and deposit/sludge formation.
We know it’s old because only dexos gen 1 could be met with semi synthetic base oils. It’s been a long time. We’re on gen 3 now. It would have to be at least 8 years old. Possibly as old as 15 years.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ve read conflicting things about if old oil is ok or not. Some say the additives may settle but just make sure to shake the bottle etc…. Maybe not worth the risk on a 22’ Tacoma with 40,000km. I just bought 2 5l jugs of Casterol Magnatec 0w20 to try for 31$ each (23$ USD), for some reason I want that Quakerstate 4x4 bottle just to have…

I can totally understand that. It’s nostalgic.
