I took another look at the case of AAP filters I bought last week. On the threaded end of the can, there is some sort of metal overlay glued on with what looks like latex sealant/caulk. It looks like there was a problem with whatever dispensed it. On some of the filters it had overflowed and formed hanging drips inside the filter, even on the clean side, and they were not stuck very tightly. Even the threads were coated with this stuff. I don't want those 1/4" long dried boogers passing through my engine.
The filters went back to AAP today, and I'm going to order some WIX/NAPA filters from Bryan at FleetFilter instead.
