If I changed my oil every 5000 miles? Would I benefit using say rp or rl over a goupIII like m1 or pp. My engine is a 93 lo5 chevy 5.7l with 50,000 miles on her. Ps, which do you guys like better rp or rl and why?

Not sure if anyone can say. If you ran your car over the top hard, there would be a benefit to using RL. Probably your engine would be cleaner using RL/RP over PP. Not sure about Mobil 1. Just an opinion.

RL>RP because of Better base and more robust aditive package. More suited to flat out performance.

If you change your oil at 5K intervals please don't use either.I have run RP and RL for 10K miles easily. To change either at 5K would waste alot of good oil and cost you needlessly. I used RP for two years and it easily ran 10K intervals in a Tacoma truck. Some on here don't like RP but it held up very well for me.
If I were going to run 5K intervals I would consider Havoline or any of the name brand oils. They all will easily protect your Chevy for longer than you will want to keep it.
If you are determined to run a synthetic and your Chevy doesn't consume any oil,you should consider intervals of at least 7500 miles and thats a very conservative interval as long as your Chevy has no mechanical issues like leaking intake gaskets ect... Perhaps a 25$ uoa would help you set an interval that allows you to get your money's worth out of a synthetic oil.
There are way too many pics. of clean engines that were run on dino oil for 200K miles to say that an oil like Havoline or Chevron are not sufficient at 5K intervals.
RL and RP will easily run 8-10K in a clean, healthy properly tuned smallblock.

You will have to show me some. Look at this for instance. Just a couple of threads down from this one.

Unless your engine requires a syn.oil for what ever reason there is no benefit running a syn oil at 5,000 mile oil changes intervals, well other than spending more money. Look in the uoa section , study up and compare syn vs non syn oils at 5,000 oil change intervals. What is the difference in wear numbers especially when considering triple the price.

I say stick with the cheaper Platinum. Nothing wrong with group III. You could dial-down to a syn-blend like Castrol for 5K OCIs.
