9mm SXT/Ranger T-Series Ammo

Now the ACTUAL ballistics expert will chime in and offer some words.

There are some DOOZIES in this thread. And I mean DOOZIES.

If anyone has ever attended an autopsy of a person that has been shot and killed with Winchester Ranger T 127 +p+, raise your hand. (bubbatime raises his hand)

This round is the hammer of thor. It likely has more one stop shots attributed to it than any other round. I have actually interviewed officers that have used this round on people and they were 1000% impressed with its performance. There are still agencies that use this round, quite effectively.

Some jello shooting self proclaimed Youtube experts scream jacket separation, must be garbage, and the Fudds eat it up.

This is a VERY good round, that works against humans, when fired from service size pistols. Period. End of discussion.

I have probably a hundred pages of data on this round and there is no data to support that this is a substandard round. Yes it is an older design. But it is a good round.

I have cases of the stuff, so I don't need any more, nor would I buy any today, if I needed ammo.

My 2019 defensive ammo consist of HST, Gold Dots, and if on a budget, 9BPLE. I get HST or Gold Dots for $23-24/box of 50, and wont spend more than that on defensive ammo. I buy ammo by the case.

And here is the fanboy...LOL. Hammer of Thor. You lost all credibility with that fanboy statement. Are you on Winchester's payroll? If you know anything about wound ballistics, you know that NO handgun round can be described as the hammer of Thor. LOL. Thanks for the laugh though. It was entertaining, but not surprising. Again, are you a paid spokesman for Winchester? LOL.....

Grow up. You wont a single person that knows more about ballistics on this forum. If you want to learn something, read more, post less.

And personal attacks is not a valid argument. Throw some reasonable articulate facts into the discussion, and we can have a healthy debate. Otherwise...

Actually, I think CorBon was trying to duplicate the 9BPLE with that hot loaded Sierra JHP back in the day.

And the fanboy is triggered. I have read autopsy reports that the coroner said that they could tell no difference between the SXT/Talon and a regular JHP. So quit whining that your overpriced, overhyped magic bullet ain't all that....

But hey, if you wanna spend $1/round, have at it. Fools and their money and all.....

All defensive ammo is too expensive. When my current factory gold dots run out I'll be carrying reloads.

Have you noticed that factory 357 SIG loadings are getting 'weaker' or not as hot as when they first came out?

I don't know what was out there when it first came out. The stuff the big guys have been putting out in the last 15-20 years for sure isn't max effort. Plenty of rounds are being downloaded these days. The old .38 FBI load isn't close to what it use to be.

Yeah, I am finding the same thing with major brand 9mm +P and +P+ loads. At least there are outfits like Underwood that still load to max SAAMI specs and sometimes beyond.

This.

Underwood Ammunition 125g Gold Dot .357 SIG @ 1500+ FPS/600+ ft.-lbs. energy out of my compact Glock 32 is my choice. 13, 15 and 22-round factory Glock magazines available, as well...

You'd be hard-pressed to find another pistol (outside of the Glock 33 or 31) that offers so much power and capacity at that low of a weight. Which is why I like Glock. Combination of compact size, low weight, high capacity, caliber choice, commonality, parts availability, and second-to-none reliability that can be found with no other brand.

Glock commercial over...lol. Yes, unapologetic fanboy here!

SIG and Beretta fanboy here. The Glock grip angle is wrong. But other than that basic design SNAFU, they are good guns.

Guess it didn't matter for me, because a Glock was my first handgun back in ‘01. Now I have a 1911 and a Hi Power as well.

I like my little Sig 938. It's my EDC.

My BIL really likes Beretta. He just bought a PX4 Storm. They're on sale for $399 at Gunprime right now, incidentally. Good-shooting gun, but I've always found them to be sorta dorky-looking.

32 here too. It's a nice combo for sure. I haven't picked up any of the Underwood/etc ammo. 125 at 1375+ is still pretty good medicine. With modern bullets you can have your cake and eat it too. Hit hard like the old 125 .357 mag load and also get great penetration.

Interesting. I have a couple of 50 rd. boxes that will be here tomorrow. The big brown truck is bringing it.

Just because a round is old school, it shouldn't be dismissed. There are some that are still very effective. 9BPLE for example.
Which has also consistently shown jacket/core separation in tests. As Hatt said, I would pass, there are far better options these days.
Fragmentation, yes. Jacket core separation, no. And the gimmick of the SXT is the 'talons' cutting to assist in wounding. Problem is, they stop cutting when the jacket separates and stops as the core keeps penetrating. The SXT will NEVER have the real life street record the 9BPLE does, STILL does. But [censored], it looks purty in jello don't it?
I have seen both jacket and core separation in tests with 9BPLE and to be sure I am not a fan of SXT or the former black talon either. My point is there is better ammunition today--Gold Dot and HST, for example, that performs better and are the same price or cheaper than 9BPLE, and are more easily attainable.

Please show me where you can get 50 rd boxes of Gold Dots or HSTs, in 9mm, for under $15/box.

And yes, they work better in jello, but bad guys aren't made of jello.
