9mm handgun recommendation

I can answer that for Nevada. This state requires the FFL holder to collect state sales tax on any gun they distribute unless you can prove you already paid it to the retailer. Not sure how they can require a federal licencee to collect sales tax, but they do.
What peturbs me (not the word I'd like to use) is if live in California and gift one of my guns to my son that lives in Nevada, apparently I'm violating federal law. That's just wrong.
Totally agree. It’s a broad brush with which they paint…

The only carve out, is “intestate” which means you can leave him your guns in your will, as long as he is allowed to possess them in his state.

It shall be illegal “for any person (other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector) to transfer, sell, trade, give, transport, or deliver any firearm to any person (other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector) who the transferor knows or has reasonable cause to believe does not reside in (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, does not maintain a place of business in) the State in which the transferor resides; except that this paragraph shall not apply to (A) the transfer, transportation, or delivery of a firearm made to carry out a bequest of a firearm to, or an acquisition by intestate succession of a firearm by, a person who is permitted to acquire or possess a firearm under the laws of the State of his residence, and (B) the loan or rental of a firearm to any person for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes;”

The sale occurs in your state.
No. I can go to your state, give the FFL the money for the gun, and my FFLs info, have them ship it to my FFL, no problem. I do not pay my FFL, I pay the original seller.....in your state. Understand what I am saying?

I have done this many times in SC, I am a NC resident.

Yes, however the sale isn’t actually complete until you take possession, which always occurs in your state.

It seems there might be some misconceptions about interstate gun sales. The "sale" is not the restricted part under federal law, it's the "transfer" which must be done by a Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealer that operates in the same state where the person receiving the firearm resides. Interstate shipments of firearms must be received by an FFL in the destination state with the exception of estate/probate transfers which are excluded from the FFL transfer requirement. The receiving FFL must complete a background check and comply with any applicable state laws before transferring the firearm to the receiver. In most cases, the FFL will charge a fee for the service of completing the transfer.

An exception to this rule is if you are shipping a firearm interstate to yourself. For instance, you can ship your hunting rifles to yourself care of an Alaskan big game hunting guide for a hunting trip.

Yes, the end result being nobody can buy a handgun outside their state of residence, ie take physical possession of it when they are physically outside their state lines.

Taking physical possession of the gun and transferring it and buying it are all three separate things. No "IE".

I am sorry, but you are not understanding the distinction between the different phases of buying and transferring a handgun.

"I bought some paper towels this morning from Amazon."

You have bought an item, but do not have physical possession of said item. Same thing. Different phase of a transaction.

I own a Glock 22, a Smith & Wesson 686, and a Ruger single six but I’ve never owned a 9mm. The easy thing would be to stick with Glock but I was wondering what the communities thoughts are

There are sooo many hilarious Dalai Lama gun memes. They started after he made a series of supportive statements about guns and self defense.

I think it was five years or so ago I saw them all over instagram

Stoeger str 9 is $150 at least in ohio.
Looked pretty good even at 2x that price
IIRC the compact-er model was also $150

Its a near glock clone.
Fin also has heritage .22lr revolvers for $75 maybe I should snag one for this dreadful winchester white box I have.. ;)

Stocking stuffers

Any Cz-75 variant, Sig P series, or HK USP for starters. You can't go wrong with any of them.

If you prefer striker fired check out Kahr.

OP, did you ever choose one?

FWIW, I’ll list my favorite 9mm handguns. I have no idea what is or isn’t on the CA approved list, and I’m not going to look because it would only hurt my feelings.

At the top:
Browning HiPower: Wonderful grip, svelte and rounded for carry, holds quite a bit of ammo without being too big. Best looking handgun made IMO, which is important.

Then after that in any order:

HK P7: A bit odd, a bit hard to find, and a lot expensive now. Unusual cocking method, but very safe and sure and gives a nice SA trigger pull. Gas pressure locked, which leads to myths, so you have to get one and see for yourself.

Sig P210: Crazy expensive, but oh so smooth. I doubt you will shoot anything better.

CZ75: Great guns. Work well and shoot well. Can be carried cocked and locked SA or the wrong way. Grip feels almost as good as the HiPower.

S&W M&P: I think I like the M&Ps best in polymer framed guns, but I’ve only been trying to decide on this category for 30 years. I like the grip shape better than most.

S&W M&P Shield: As the regular M&P but skinnier. No experience with the Plus versions.

Sig P320: I know there is doom and gloom talk about a couple of dropped ones, so don’t buy either of those two. I like the Wilson grip module, as it makes it feel sort of HiPower-like if you imagine real hard.

Sig P365: Also neat. I like the larger ones best. I’ll have one of the new Fuse models soon. It holds 17rds like my P320 and is a lot slimmer. The grip feels even better.

S&W 39/439/639/3904/etc/etc: The only DA gun that will make this list. After the very, very first 39s, S&W got them figured out.
Another gun with a great feeling grip. Do we see a theme here?

Glock 19: I still like this as the best size Glock. The grip on these are…fair.

Kahrs: I didn’t have a good experience with the micro models (MK9 for example) but the others have worked great for me. Nice enough trigger, and work great. They don’t get the attention they deserve IMO.
The grip makes me think of a small HiPower, which is good.

So to sum up, buy a HiPower.

EDIT:
One more.
Ruger LCR.
That’s right, a revolver. Even better would be an old Speed-Six.

But seriously, buy a HiPower.
