9mm handgun recommendation

I own a Glock 22, a Smith & Wesson 686, and a Ruger single six but I’ve never owned a 9mm. The easy thing would be to stick with Glock but I was wondering what the communities thoughts are

The Springfield Echelon is, in many ways, an improvement over the Glock. I’ve got a couple of Glock 17s, and a few 19s, in 9mm. I’ve got several S&W 3rd generation 9mm and a couple of 1911s in 9mm.

It would help if I knew for what purpose you wanted the gun.

For a future collectible classic, with fine craftsmanship and outstanding durability, the S&W 3rd Generation. Better than that, for collectibility, though with a worse trigger, might be a genuine High Power.

For target shooting, it’s hard to beat the crisp trigger, and low recoil, of a 1911 in 9mm.

For all around uses, including, perhaps, concealed carry, along with great parts support, the G19 is a great choice.

For a dedicated carry gun, the SiG P365XL is about perfect. Very concealable, 12+1 capacity, red dot options.

For a duty sized gun, with 17+1 capacity, and ready for optics, with a nice trigger, and great customization options, the Echelon.

My friend has a 5906 which I believe is third generation Smith and Wesson. I like it except I’m so use to my striker fired Glock that’s hard to adapt to the DA trigger. It will mainly be used for plinking/target shooting and home defense
I am in California so magazine capacity is going to be limited

Sig P226. I am sure Sig has it with a 10 rnd mag. DA/SA but you can start in SA for target and plinking and the DA first shot makes it safer for home defense IF you like the grip size and angle. I love 1911 frame guns but having to keep it cocked and locked for home defense is a big down side. A full sized gun that surprised me was the Canik Rival, either the polymer or the steel they both shoot like lasers and have great striker triggers but I dont know if they are CA approved.

Well... being in Commifornia cuts down on your options due to the roster, though, is it me or are there more choices in there than there used to be? No 3rd Gen S&W's autos on there, that I see.

Glock's are like a Griswold Woody Wagon at this point..
Something else German is more sexy.. :p

Looking myself….listening in. But in my case I need the least recoil as I am recoding from a hand injury…..

Uh, Gaston Glock was born and bred in Austria and produced the Glock 17 first for the German army. Kind of like saying a German car would be sexier than a Volkswagen.
See.. They're so white Bread, I forgot they were Austrian.. :ROFLMAO:

The difference between a Glock and an HK is like comparing a Camry to an AMG..

He's going to shoot it, not date it or sit and stare at it and he already owns one.

I was going to recommend that you shoot an HK VP9 before making your choice. But I'm pretty sure that HK has not bothered getting any of their firearms on the California approved list.

My second recommendation would be a Walther PDP, which replaced the PPQ. I had a PPQ, and it was a very nice pistol. The PDP is supposed to be even nicer. I don't know if the PDP is on the California approved list either. But I'm pretty sure the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 is, and I heard a lot of good about them.

Googling, I noticed the Walther, canik, and Springfield look very similar. Is this the new design direction for 9MM?

Canik started by copying the Walther P99. However, they improved and refined the design. They are very good firearms.

The Springfield Echelon is a Croatian creation, with a modular chassis system. It's a high quality pistol. If you can afford it, you should pick over a Canik or Glock.
