I'd say yes and no - way to go out on a limb, eh? You're using a synthetic 10w-40, so you won't have the problems of the "garbage" 10w-40 conventionals that frightened GM in the past. We really can't say anything about anti-wear levels, because I don't know what Syntec's 10w-40 levels are like versus a variety of HDEOs out there; from a specifications standpoint, they have equal footing in what they can choose for phosphorus, for example.

Your climate gives you a pile of choice, really. If it were me, particularly in your climate and if I were stuck on using a synthetic, I'd be torn between something like an A3/B3 A3/B4 oil (i.e. M1 0w-40, Castrol 0w-30 or 0w-40) or an E7, E9 5w-40 HDEO (like the Delvac 1 I'm using; Castrol also has such offerings if you prefer Castrol; Shell and Chevron have their versions too, among others).

If I were using conventional, given the manual specifications for your vehicle, I would be grabbing a 15w-40 HDEO without question, with a 10w-30 HDEO not outside the realm of possibility, either.

Any USA car with a turbo over 100K miles, I'd switch that to Delo400 ASAP. The turbos love it and the extra detergency will slowly clean that motor, no matter what the PO put in it.

Loss of a turbo is more likely than a motor part failure. So I'd be into HEDO's as they have a proven track record of bazillion miles in turbo rigs ...

All my cars, and especially the last three turbo cars I've owned went to Delo400 at 100K and all but one went out the back door at well over 200K in tact. The Volvo lost a turbo on 10W-30 just before I got it (from my wife) at 120K . It went to 280+K with the replacement turbo and Delo400...

Not turbo. Supercharged.

I can't remember if this supercharger has its own oil supply or not.

Eaton m90 or so right?

Odd that the filter blocks the posters phrase "J@P" never thought that was offensive?
I was thinking that same exact thing. Then again, left-wingers find everything offensive.

Yes, go for it.

YEp, M90 on those...earlier ones had the M62.

Nope, it's a standalone reservoir filled with polymerised cat faeces (the oil really really stinks used).

GM have a TSB on allowing it to be refilled with 5W30...at $49 for a 116(?) ml bottle of the original stuff, I use 5W30 (A3/B3 surprise)...interestingly, when I enquired, my dealer hadn't sold a bottle of the proper stuff for a half decade, so either they aren't getting changed ever, or people are using engine oil.

A lot of the guys who had Thunderbird Supercoupes (3.8L M90 Supercharged v6).

They would use turbine oil in the m90 with good results. You do not want 5w30 in there.

BP 2380 turbine oil is what was used.

You guys get a full synthetic 10W-40 !?!

I've only seen semi-synthetics 10W-40's here in Australia.

We don't get full synthetic 10W30 or 10W40 (at least not easily).

Lucky we get Castrol Edge 5W30 that is A3/B4, plus the Edge / M1 0W40 of course.

Certainly, but the Shell tech support telephone jockeys disagree vehemently. The "SM" part of CJ-4/SM is just for decoration, it would seem.

Hey guys im wondering should i use a high mileage oil for my car since it has 137k miles? is there anything bad about high mileage oil?

Its a great idea to do that. Those seals are old and need the extra seal conditioners. Also, Mobil1 High Mileage oils have higher HTHS to fill those worn engine areas.

i dont think i wanna go the synthetic route but the car is supercharged so i dunno....

For your vehicle, I would use Mobil 1 High Mileage or Valvoline MaxLife Full Synthetic, although the Valvoline may be hard to find in the appropriate weight.

Otherwise, Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Blend is pretty much the best high mileage oil on the market. My Fusion loves it & I've seen a couple other vehicles that do great on it as well.

its supercharged so i was thinking a semi blend high mileage maybe but i dunno what the previous owner used.
