I purchased on Friday from a MB collector in Clinton CT. All records with $12,600 in new components in the past 4 years. Zero rust.

My wife claimed it after the first drive.

Like a good BITOGer I changed the oil and filter when I got home. My first diesel engine oil change. Nasty stuff.

That is a wonderful car. The W124 is a great chassis. Solid. Smooth handling and ride, last of the recirculating ball steering boxes, I think, so it has a classic Mercedes “weight” and precision. That diesel will run forever. Yours is in immaculate condition.

These MB's are what put them at the top of reliability once upon a time. It's great to find one in good shape like this & being on the east coast might of helped that somewhat. Where did you pick up the 0w-40?

If used diesel oil get on your clothes, it won't come out.

The drain oil is nasty stuff and I learned that from a diesel Benz.
These are cars from the era when Mercedes could really claim that its cars were engineered like no other in the world.

The weak points on these are evaporators and in some cases, head gaskets.

@fdcg27 We had a 1997 C230 and just loved it. The 300D reminds us of that car but with more room and a heavier feel.

It’s the most solid car we have owned.

That’s a wonderful combo!! My 1991 is blue interior.


It’s true that the smaller engines had less head and HG issues. But they still do. My 1985 190d had a head gasket weep long ago. I bought it from the original owner and it’s like new, but this was a thing, due to the mixed metal design (iron block/aluminum head).
