yea, the Rotella bros have been pushing it for a long time, but this is a Mercedes car diesel after all. Not a big 7-16L Mercedes platform Detroit Diesel DD-series engine in a Freightliner truck, Thomas/Setra/MCI bus or Pierce fire truck where Rotella is appropriate. Rotella T6 is Euro-approved but as an Ex-schedule oil for heavy duty diesel.Don't just change to any old 5W40 because a shop told you to - the Rotella is not on the approved list.
Mercedes actually tests oil - and if it isn't on the list - it failed one of those tests - so don't use it.
I’d stick to the Mercedes approvals and do shorter OCIs. Euro car approvals are stricter than ILSAC that’s based on CAFE more than anything and even beyond GM’s dexos specs. Even the latest Euro 0W-20 specs are tougher than ILSAC/JASO specs. Turbos can be affected by oil, but in this day and age of downsizing, stress and orher factors can kill them.
