When the last round is fired. It doesn't occur all of the time. If you hand rack it with an empty mag it never fails to lock. I am not going to send it back for a half year at least. It has no other problems and IO really don't need that featuht now.

I bought it 3 weeks ago.

Other than the stiff trigger I love the thing.

Are you saying the slide doesn't go fully forward after the last shot?

Have you ever taken this gun apart to look for any burrs, etc. I always take a new gun apart and look for anything that might affect it's function.

ZeeOSix:

The slide does not stay locked back (breech open) when the last shot is fired. I have had it apart a number of times checking for that. Thanks.

First thing to do is make sure the pistol is properly lubed lubed, then is your wrist locked 'limp wrist'
Try a higher power ammo if you are using a white box type 115 grain. I have tried the Shield it is a really nice pistol.

Take the slide off and insert empty magazines into the pistol and see if the step in the follower of the magazine is firmly engaging with the slide stop level on the frame. It sounds to me like the follower of the magazine may be rotating down and not pushing that slide stop lever up with authority.

Ammunition that's too light will generally cause the slide to not cycle correctly, and cause feeding issues. If yours feeds okay, then I suspect the magazine follower.

Aaah, got ya. I agree with Hokiefyd's assessment.

You are riding the slide lock with your hand when you are shooting it. Shoot it with the opposite hand and the problem will go away. Adjust your grip so that you are not accidentally pushing down on the lever.

If you are positive its not your grip, probably weak ammo. Try some +p ammo and see if the problem goes away.

How many rounds are through it? A lot of these compact handguns have stiff recoil springs and may need a little wear before working 100%.

The slide not locking back, although an annoyance, is not a major issue unless due to a obvious manufacturing defect. The emergency drills that are taught in handgun classes include the possibility that it won't lock back so you manually rack the slide to get back in operation.

Thanks..I'll try those things. I appreciate it and the other responses also.

Mine took 3-400rnds to fully break in where all the little quirks went away. Most manufacturers won't even take a gun back for minor things until you have 500rnds through it.
