Smith and Wesson M&P Shield Plus Optics Ready

Nice work. I find it takes a bit to get used to a new trigger and recoil pulse….keep slinging the lead!
Thanks! This is only my second gun I've bought. Its definitely different than my SW 686 357 Magnum that's seen hundreds or probably over 1000 rounds at this point.

My impressions: take into account my other guns I shoot are SW 686 Revolver 357 magnum and my wife's Beretta tomcat 3032 (not often).

The trigger is very light. The trigger break is very crisp imo. The reset is a little vague.

It's very light weight, so recoil control is important. A solid grip is a must.

Accuracy is what I focused on. It took me a bit to realize why I was shooting low at first. I was using the iron sights the same way I do with my revolver. But when I adjusted the sight picture to line the target with the dot (lower than the top of the iron sight), I was spot on. For reference, I switched to my revolver at some point and was dead on target. But I'll dial it in.

Overall, I'm pleased with my first day. Especially at 11 yards out with a 3.1 inch barrel. Easy to shoot, light weight, and reliable. All good CCW attributes.

Nice shooting. Looks like your right handed, right eye dominant, and use too much index finger on the trigger 😁. Very common coming from revolver shooting with the heavier trigger. You hit on a very important fundamental with smaller semis in that you need a firm grip. And you figured out the sights. Put the dot on where you want to hit.

How can you tell all that from the targets?

Love that color!

Side note: Every time I do force on force knife training it only reinforces how much I don’t want to ever get into a knife fight.
Yea the knife really isn't for self defense unless that's literally all I've got

Very nice! I can reassure you, with practice these micro 9 mm concealed carry guns can be quite accurate. I don’t have your gun, but I do carry a FN Reflex which has a 3.3” barrel. Like yours, it shoots everything I can throw at it.

Went back out today shooting from 11 yards/33 feet with 50 rounds of Herters (Bass Pro Shop rebranded Winchester white box). Had a few fliers where I wasn't focused on grip as much but overall a much better outting. This is one of the targets I shot. The group thats high/ left- i tried switching to my left eye.

Not sure if I'm dipping, but i seem to shoot low with this gun, relative to my sight picture.

Herters is pretty low quality ammo. I would recommend Speer Lawman. I like 124gr but 115gr shoots well.

It's been over a month since I last shot. Since then, I sent my shield plus to sw customer service to look at. They agreed it was shooting low and changed the barrel (see picture of notes). It shot way better for me today, even though it's only my third time shooting with it and it's been a while since I've shot it. It doesn't shoot low anymore. These targets were at 10 yards. I'm obviously still working on it but I have more confidence after today. It was definitely shooting way low relative to my sight picture.

Took the shield plus out with my new red dot to get it dialed in. Since it's a 3.1 inch CCW, I decided 10 yards was plenty to zero it (final results are in the red part of the torso) . Took me a few rounds to get it in there but worked out well. Started off a little right, then over shot it to the left. Then split the difference in my clicks and found the middle ground.

I also tested it at 7 yards and 15 yards and was happy with results.

Another range day. Just put 100 rounds down range. Did decent imo
This first pic if 5 rounds at 7 yards.

Then pushed target to 25 yards. Had one low flier and one crazy left.

Then 10 and 15 yard shooting. But was getting some fatigue. 10 yards was the most shots and was pretty quick shooting

Question not a critique: do you ever aim at the high center chest (upper green and yellow ring) area intentionally? The bullseye (orange center ring) is a good center mass impact but it doesn’t exactly represent proper placement of the heart, aorta and lungs on a human. Center ring would represent a liver, diaphragm or kidney impact which is still solid hit.

Ive considered this. I will probably start doing that. I'm a cardiac cath lab person so anatomy is my strong suit, and agree with your point. I think I've been focusing on shooting on target/close as I can on target. In the real world, assuming I'm clear headed enough, my point of aim would be heart, lungs, and then center of mass.

I plan on doing more out door range once weather gets better so I can actually run through drills, which is generally frowned upon indoors.

That’s how I was taught to shoot up close silhouettes targets. Anatomically both areas are still vital structures so I don’t think either is incorrect. Center mass is more useful for longer ranges in order to increases the likelihood of a hit overall. But again a good hit on target is a good hit target period.

Still liking your Shield Plus? I’m about to change out the factory night sights on mine for some XS Big Dots. I have the sights just haven’t done it yet.

I seem to like it better and better every time i shoot it. I did have SW look at it amd they agreed it was a bad barrel and they changed it out. After that, it's been working on my shooting, which I think is improving some. The gun itself has been great with no malfunctions with about 1300 rounds through it, including about 100 rounds of Sig Sauer Elite Defense HP.

The Cyelee Cat Pro has been geeat so far. I thought about doing a blacked out rear with an upgraded front sight, but haven't done it since I've gotten the red dot.
