Those were nice looking cars for the day, however most of the 80’s cars were slugs!
That's not exactly something to brag about, but ok. How'd he do against Yugos?A buddy of mine beat a Tercel or two with one back in the day![]()
...all of which will neatly outrun most any 3rd Gen F BodyI freakin' LOVED the 80's. Today we get 3-cylinder Toyotas and electric junk that does nothing to stir the soul.
I bet St. Peter has a IROC-Z parked outside the Pearly Gates.
True. Most recent V6-powered minivans would embarrass one at a stoplight. Those were nice looking cars for the day, however most of the 80’s cars were slugs!

IIRC GM put an iron duke 4cyl in a camero! As if it was not slow enough in that era.It was a joke but another friend had a beat up Tercel and they did race a few times, it was hysterical. Even better, another friend had a Renault Encore...that was a better match for the Tercel especially with 4 of us in each car.
Keep in mind this was the mid-90's so the 70 hp when new was probably down to about 50. Wouldn't even spin the tires on gravel!

The YUGOS held their own, had a red one, little four with the 2 barrel carb, took down a few tercels and honeybees, running up thru the gears I could take them up till 3rd gear then she would run out of breath. That's not exactly something to brag about, but ok. How'd he do against Yugos?
I drove an early Yugo in the late 80's carefully around the tech school parking lot. It was a teacher's new ride. Even then as a 17 year old kid I could tell that that thing was a horrible little crapbox. It was like driving a Soviet-era Yugoslavian-made toaster. It felt like a golf cart with glass. I recall clearly how incredibly sloppy the shifter was, like it was broken. I couldn't even imagine driving one over 30 in traffic. Even in a parking lot it felt dangerous, and that's coming from a dumb, 'fearless' teenager! The YUGOS held their own, had a red one, little four with the 2 barrel carb, took down a few tercels and honeybees, running up thru the gears I could take them up till 3rd gear then she would run out of breath.![]()
