86 IROC Z commercial.

I freakin' LOVED the 80's. Today we get 3-cylinder Toyotas and electric junk that does nothing to stir the soul.

I bet St. Peter has a IROC-Z parked outside the Pearly Gates.
...all of which will neatly outrun most any 3rd Gen F Body
I agree on the style/soul, but in terms of performance, a Camry will walk it
And not require the exhaust and differential removed to replace the fuel pump

That's not exactly something to brag about, but ok. How'd he do against Yugos?

It was a joke but another friend had a beat up Tercel and they did race a few times, it was hysterical. Even better, another friend had a Renault Encore...that was a better match for the Tercel especially with 4 of us in each car. 🤣

Keep in mind this was the mid-90's so the 70 hp when new was probably down to about 50. Wouldn't even spin the tires on gravel!

IIRC GM put an iron duke 4cyl in a camero! As if it was not slow enough in that era.

The YUGOS held their own, had a red one, little four with the 2 barrel carb, took down a few tercels and honeybees, running up thru the gears I could take them up till 3rd gear then she would run out of breath.

My 89 looks very much like this but with Ttops. Shes sleeping in the garage until spring comes back. Only thing I don't like about it is the auto transmission but they never put a manual behind the 350 in the 3rd gens. Mines mostly stock but I have done a few mods in the name of better operation, such as moving to a 90-92 ECM with speed density and a new cat back exhaust since the old one was rotten when I picked her up some years back.

Ah for the good old days of destroying 5.0 Mustangs with my 94 Z28 senior year of high school and in college.

In high school ( class of 87!) My friends dad had a 62 Impala ss409. We occasionally took it to school. Two 4 bbl carbs,4 speed and I believe 4:30 gears.

Beautiful car.

One morning we were going to school. Stopped at a red light and a red iroc pulls up on our left. Inside that iroc was a couple of jocks and a couple of cheerleaders.

Iroc driver looked at us in the old car and threw a rev. He was going to impress the girls.

My friend put the Impala into 1st gear with a clunk.

Light turned green and the Impala was all over the lane. All we saw was the 6 ft long hood. Shifted to 2nd with a bang, a chirp and blew both rear hubcaps off the wheels.

By now the iroc was several car lengths behind us. Stopped at the next light and waited. The iroc pulled in behind us instead of next to us this time. Figured we better go get our hubcaps and made a right turn to go back. Iroc did not follow us.

I drove an early Yugo in the late 80's carefully around the tech school parking lot. It was a teacher's new ride. Even then as a 17 year old kid I could tell that that thing was a horrible little crapbox. It was like driving a Soviet-era Yugoslavian-made toaster. It felt like a golf cart with glass. I recall clearly how incredibly sloppy the shifter was, like it was broken. I couldn't even imagine driving one over 30 in traffic. Even in a parking lot it felt dangerous, and that's coming from a dumb, 'fearless' teenager!

I actually saw a Yugo about 6 years ago--it was stopped for a light. It started moving when the light turned green. That is the last time I saw one. I think it had Pennsylvania tags on it, and it was in Virginia.

A lol for me was my brothers sis in law a NYC patent attorney dressed to the nines who lives in owned apartment facing Central Park kept her high school IROC dad got her brand new age 17 at a cost of $800/month in garage in her twenties .

Her clothes cost most than car was worth when I knew she had it.

It finally disintegrated.

Looked great, and they felt fast for the day, but standards were pretty low. Worked at a Pontiac dealership from 88-91, so GTAs were a daily sight, and a frequent drive. After I bought my '86 Civic si, the first car I whooped at a stop light was an '84 5.0 Trans Am. I don't think I could have taken an IROC or GTA though.
