Thanks for all the replies.

Here's a idea on what I'm looking at for something to buy. Seems to be quite a few of these nice 6.0 trucks, probably because so many were scared off from them.

I get 10 mpg on flat ground with my 2002, LB7, crewcab, dually, longbed, 4wd, 26k gross, pulls it with ease.

If you buy a 6.0 Powerstroke take it to Mid City Auto in Lake Charles, Louisiana to have all the work done. Extremely knowledgeable people when it comes to these trucks and once bulletproofed youll never have to take it back. They go the extra mile and pay attention to detail when bulletproofing a 6.0

That sure is a lot of cheddar for a 14 year old 150,000 mile truck with a tore-up drivers seat & steering wheel that's bright yellow. Granted....Color is a subjective thing. I would want a NICE king ranch for that kind of money!

It takes a bout $3000 to make a 6.0 "Bulletproof" with head studs & all the necessary "deletes" (mainly the EGR) and the truck will be as reliable as the 7.3 with better transmission.

The Dodge trucks forever have transmission problems. I don't think there is a cure for them, unless you step up into the Medium duty level (Think Freightliner FL70 style)

Get a good 6.0 Ford , do the right stuff to it at a reputable shop, and enjoy your truck for 400,000+ miles

Transmission issues are no harder to solve than any other truck. Get it built right, and enjoy.

Buying a truck and having it bulletproofed will be a better option than buying one already done. You will know what was done, by whom, and how many miles is on everything.

If you can stand the thought of buying new, both Ford and GM are coming out with some new, robust gas heavy duty engines. Are they any good? Don't know but if there's gonna be trouble I'll take a gas engine over a diesel any day. Just a thought. ....

Pop the hood on a Diesel truck and see if you would want to work on them. I used to own a 2002 F 250 7.3. to date it was one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. I wouldn't buy a newer diesel engine pickup.

He is certainly an expert on the Ford 6.0 PSD, but I am sure there are others. He is buying the same parts anyone can buy. But eventually the PSD before the 6.7 will age away and your only choice will be a 6.7.

I have only had one issue with my 6.7 PSD and that was a exhaust temp sensor. Got Ford to pick up the tab on that.

The 6.7 will be a nightmare down the road due to the emissions systems. There have already been problems with the DEF tank sensor malfunctioning and causing the truck to go into limp mode.

Well I am hoping I can get Ford to pay for the emission system when they fail.

I think we may be going through the pain years of diesel emissions. And soon they will get it right and reliable.

Or we are all driving electric vehicles.

Yes, you can get a 6.doh truck really cheap.

Just like you can get a SCREAMING deal on a neon-pink Yugo with yellow polka dots, and a lavender interior with lime green seats. The 6.0 PSD is the pink Yugo of the truck world.

I'd either get an older truck with a mechanical Cummins, or a newer truck with a gasser. Its one thing to change from mechanical to electric controls, but it is a whole other layer of complexity with the new emissions stuff.

You can't "bullet proof" a 6.0 for $4,000.00.

One should run far away....very fast from those motors, unless you want to spend big dollars making them right before you head down the road.....

I have no major dislike for the 6.0L Ford. I even know quite a few guys who have had issues with them. But I know other guys who did their deletes and they haven't had a lick of problems.

Having said that I'd still opt for a SuperDuty with a ZF6 and then swap a Cummins into it. FUMMINS

Quality aftermarket high performance connecting rods are expensive in general. The 6.0L PS has a pretty stout bottom-end so I don't see the relevance?

If you do the work yourself, Probably closer to $5,000 in parts......Assuming the Injectors, HPOP, ICP, & IPR are in good shape.

Oil Cooler relocate.
EGR Cooler delete.
ARP studs & OE head gaskets.
Injector re-seal kit.
Billet water pump.
Upgraded FICM power supply.
New SCT fitting, Stand Pipes, Dummy Plugs.
Thermostat.
Tuning Software for the EGR delete.

There are cheaper routes, Like.......Replacing the oil cooler with a Ford part, Flushing the cooling system REALLY well & keep a close eye on the Coolant-Oil temperature delta. Deleting the EGR Cooler will take some of the thermal load off the cooling system.

Blocking the EGR helped lower coolant temps on my Duramax at max GCWR!

The Ford 6.4 has easily dethroned every 6.oh-no as the worst motor ever made! The new "Pink Yugo"

And remember: in many places, doing the "deletes" means you can no longer actually register the truck!

30k a year, 75%towing a 5ver. Traveling boilermaker, full time rver. I'm just tired of the new car payment, I want a used truck that with maintenence can do 500k to a million miles. An 05 or so cummins with a 6 speed is what I really want to find but I like the ford's too, just trying to see if there is any worth investing in besides the 7.3.
