Ok folks here is a question for you. I need a good dino 5w30 for my Auto Rx rinse phase. Have a DOHC 3.5 liter engine and will be going to the western PA area over Christmas (temps may get to the low teens). What would be the best based on staying in grade? Thanks!

The site moderator at Auto RX, said I made a good choice, with the CASTROL 5-30 GTX. He said DO NOT

use the "start up" or "high miles" Castrol products. Just the GTX 5-30 dino...

I concur with Castrol GTX for no more than 3000 mile intervals. It always worked well for me, it stays in grade, protects reasonably well and contains some moly to boot

.

I have the 10w30 GTX in it right now during the cleaning phase. I have always used Castrol in my trucks and other cars but used Mobil 1 in this until the A-Rx. I was thinking about the MC 5w30 too, does anyone have an opinion on that oil?

The new Motorcraft 5w30 is a group III oil that will stay in grade. It will say semi-synthetic or synthetic blend on the front label. Don't use the old "super premium" oil.

If you can't find MC, any GF4 oil should stay in grade. Read the back of the label.

AutoRX keeps recommending "cheap" dino oil for the rinse phase. I suspect they want something with group I in it. Group I basestocks are good at cleaning. In another 500 miles, I'll start my AutoRX rinse. I intend to used 4 quarts of SuperTech 5w30 and 1 quart of ST 10w40. That should give me a heavy 30 weight, that will shear to a light 30 weight. The cold flow properties shouldn't be compromised much by the 1 quart of 40 weight.

Here's a post that addresses Group III use with AutoRX.

"May I also note that many group III dino derived/refined base oils are marketed as full synthetic. ARX will work great with these as well."
