48 hours into no refined sugar products

You are correct, of course. Maximum benefit comes only through consistent and persistent hard work. Most people won't engage in your level of physical activity. It takes discipline. I often don't do as I say because I know what is right for me under the given circumstances. I see my fellow runners slugging quarts of Gatorade because they run a couple of miles. Ridiculous.
Gatorade yea don't get me started I see people drinking it at work thinking it's healthy.. The other statement my mind is what I have trained myself from my trainer she was brutal and that's what it takes. My wife says same thing about me I have the right state of mind that you have to achieve. I'll ride the trainer here in few minutes knowing I dont have to but I must ro achieve next goals. Tomorrow we lift back and arm day I know that and knowing what I need for that that's how it comes together.

Spring 2019, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with an A1C of 7.2 and fasting glucose of 108. At the time, I was 285 lbs (5'8") and drinking 5-6 can cokes a day. For years, I dealt with my depression by seeking that instant gratification from drinks and sweets.

That blookwork was a wake up call. I immediately cut out all sugary drinks, kicked the sweets, and started actually paying attention to what I put in my body. Same as you, I had a bad headache for a couple of days and then was over it. I lost close to 20 lbs in those first couple months afterward.

I'm now 210 lbs and slowly but surely still losing weight. Without medication, just diet controlled, I've gotten my A1C steady at 5.0-5.5 for the past 2 years. That's still eating 30-40% carbs, just making healthier choices with no refined or added sugars, whole wheat and grain when possible, and plenty of fiber.
You can pretty much reverse type 2 diabetes with a plant based food diet.

I love a great burger occasionally but I vastly reduced meats and processed food and it made a huge difference.

Here's a nice one for us meat eaters. Did you know most colon cancer comes from viruses in meat? Regular cooking temps won't kill these viruses either unless you carbonize your food.

Going to link back to my post on the other Low Carb thread, haven't strayed in over a year and weight loss is now about 60 lbs with almost no work-outs since I haven't renewed the gym membership because they moved to a new location. I still have no real cravings to eat outside this diet but had to switch from microwave 'meat lovers' bowl from Aldi's frozen section to the sausage and gravy one, the bacon in the meat lovers was rancid once so that's ended that. Sometimes the cooked chicken can be rancid too, I can usually avoid this by smell, this doesn't happen often but if it starts to taste bad I notice right away and won't eat it for having made that mistake a couple of times...fresh and cut into small bits and you'll be surprised at how filling a plate-full is.

I know I am fit, my new job actually has us training "calisthenics" or some kind of active cardio so that we can be flexible. An hour or so a day. It incorporates walking, then goes into a yoga-like routine.

You are saying.. to kick it up a notch? I do do jumping jacks, about 100, and I have some 28lbs approximately dumbbells I lift sometimes, doing at least 10 shoulder presses.
You're already doing what sounds like a form of power yoga for an hour a day. In my opinion, power yoga (or similar) is the best overall exercise people can do. Low or no impact, flexibility, strength, cardio. Though I'd add a little direct weightlifting to beef up a few parts like shoulders for narcissistic reasons.

Lots of people who have to look good professionally, or even various athletes, don't work out more than an hour a day. There's no such thing really as over-training, but there is the law of diminishing returns.

Crossfit got mentioned. Be careful. Plenty of people put together Crossfit routines and just kind of throw things together or add in overly stressful exercises and those people are probably going to get people hurt.

Sometimes I went weeks basically only drinking water and eating steak. I felt like a god.
Hard to maintain such a diet and probably not something to recommend. Still, someone doesn't need to do extreme things to get the bulk of the positives.

Two videos always come to mind on topics like this. One is the documentary Fat Head by Tom Naughton. It's him eating at McDonalds every week to show the Supersize Me documentary was full of deceit. (such as the Supersize me guy actually eating much more food than he claimed.)

spoiler: Tom lost weight and his blood tests looked much better after eating only at McDonalds. And he adds evidence that heart disease isn't caused by eating fat, which nowadays should be rather obvious. And people on extreme low-fat diets and taking statins may be hurting themselves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_Head

Here's the other video. Jack Lalanne Sugarholics. Funny how it can take so long to sort through advertising, media, even terrible government food pyramids, to get to truth that was being told 50 years ago.

I bet this video changes at least one person's life every time it's posted somewhere.
"Exclude these foods for just 5 days, and you'll be thanking me the rest of your life."

How is it going?

I cut a lot of sugar from my diet aswell, went from 1000 kcal a day in soft drinks to about 100 kcal. Less sugar in the coffee aswell. Seems I'm losing between 1/2 and 1 pound a day in weight, my vision improved aswell and pretty sure it's linked.

I’m doing ok over the holidays minus the beers I’ve had. Being close to Costco helps a lot. Salads I am loving also, and cauliflower and broccoli.

I try and eat very little with "added sugar" in the label. And no fruit juice. Part of my goal is to reduce the amount of sugar in my diet and part to eliminate sugar that can get into my system quickly. Eat an apple, fine. But no apple juice. Same for an orange. I do eat a small banana every day for the potassium.

Picked up some peanuts and am looking into some keto options as well.

Medium Chain Triglycerides?
My wife adds MCT oil to her coffee. I just started doing “dirty” keto because I refuse to give up my coffee creamer (the sugar free options taste absolutely foul to me), but otherwise I stick to whatever my wife feeds me since she does pretty strict keto. Before our 3rd child, she had managed to lose ~90lbs and keep it off! It’s not that hard since the stuff she makes is generally delicious, she made us some keto tortilla chips earlier that I can’t wait to eat!

Refined sugar has a high glycemic index, whereas Honey and Agave syrup do not. I sweeten my coffee with honey or agave.
Honey and Agave are like high Fructose Corn syrup. ,as bad or worst that refined sugars.

Yes, you are right. Starting with refined sugar first. Will look at other things like refined grains, potato chips, etc after I get passed this step.
refined grains, potato chip, they are like eating sugars

Hey GON....how about an update.
I little update. I voluntarily "fell of the wagon" from 23 DEC to 25 DEC. Went to visit my Daughter and grandsons in Denver and wanted to participate in the sugar filled festivities.

What I have accomplished since starting this project is not eating refined sugar for breakfast or any meal whatsoever. I am not eating refined sugar as a snack substitute. An example, it is 5am Sunday morning and I am drinking a cup of coffee. I would usually have a pastry or a doughnut at this time. I am not, and am not desiring it. Happy I am able to give up refined sugar as a meal or a typical part of my diet (such as a snickers leaving Home Depot).

Bottom line, feeling much better during the day, not nearly so tired.

Actually no if you look at several different sources honey and Agave are very different from hfcs.

More nutrients and less processed than sugar

Honey varies in its nutritional composition based on the origin of the nectar used to make it. In general, it contains trace amounts of local pollen along with other substances, such as:

Some research indicates that dark honey has more antioxidants than light honey.
Likewise

Adds an unnatural amount of fructose to your diet

The fructose in HFCS can cause health issues if eaten in excessive amounts.

Most starchy carbs, such as rice, are broken down into glucose — the basic form of carbs. However, table sugar and HFCS comprise around 50% glucose and 50% fructose (5Trusted Source).

Glucose is easily transported and utilized by every cell in your body. It’s also the predominant fuel source for high-intensity exercise and various processes.
