I had 2 seperate attacks the past 2 days in my email, Outlook. Each attack was 2 different emails, one with an MP3 code and another was a Zip file. Naturally there was an attachment that wasn't opened since I didn't recognize the sender. Norton picked both up and Quarantined them. I later deleted both from quarantine.

So much for almost 5 years without a virus attack!

Update those virus DATS and don't click on attachments!

That reminds me, I need to do a backup! Friggin hackers!

Over the past two weeks I've suddenly had about 25+ email type viruses sent. Strange thing is that one of my friend's names appeared as a sender except with a period in the middle of it. Was NOT him, but WAS a virus.

Bunch of losers!

Toy, I have never had viruses so this is all new to me. I suspect someone I know is getting hit and all the addresses in that persons book are spreading the virus. I just don't know who it is yet. Then again it could be someone is mad at me here.

Use windows automatic updates feature in Windows 2000 and Win XP. Also, just about every anti-virus allows you to schedule back-ups. Have the backup run DAILY. Not weekly or monthly. Additionally, update Outlook 2000 with Service Pack 3 (SP3) and Outlook XP with SP1.

The latest virus out there is Beagle. Just about every anti-virus has its signature, so please update your anti-viruses.
Excerpt from our friends at Microsoft =Þ
"Bagle.A is a mass mailer worm designed to trick recipients into opening a malicious program attached to the message. If a recipient opens the attachment, the worm sends itself to all of the contacts in the e-mail program's address book."

An easy way to avoid email viruses is to use your ip's webmail interface. That way, you never download any email. I dont use any virus software and have yet to have any viruses. If its not from a secure source, I dont download.

If you use yahoo email, they have an up to date email scan for attachments that catches all these viruses.

I have never used microsofts email programs and if everyone will notice, that's what 99% of these viruses are aimed at.

Storm, thats the virus that tried to get through. The other one was the MP3.

Dan, Outlook is protected with my Norton Antivirus therefore it would need to be missed by Norton and subsequently clicked and opened before it would be spread to the machines. We are very careful and this is the first time in 5 years a virus has even attempted an attack. I agree Outlook is a risk!

I will check my email again and see if I recieved more.

My IP uses Postini.com. VERY Effective! I barely need a virus protector.....but that's kinda like saying one wouldn't need a condom in a....OK enough of that analogy.....

Viruses are getting pretty bad lately. At home it's not a problem for me since I use Yahoo but at work it's a different story. Our servers have a firewall/virus stripper that (so far) has caught all of the viruses. It removbes the virus but still allows the email through. I'd say for about the past three weeks I've gotten an average of 15 virus emails a day!

That's getting ridiculous!

Just because you have never had a virus so far doesn’t mean that you will never receive one and get infected. Even if you update your anti-virus definitions and update windows, you can still get a virus. If a new virus comes out and the signature of the file has not been recognized yet, it doesn’t matter what you have protecting your computer, you WILL become infected. Anti-Viruses and Windows updating just help stop the majority of problems.
When back orifice came out during windows 98, Microsoft tool forever to plug that security hole. Any little teenybopper could get that program and pretend to hack.
