Realizing that UOA's don't seem to show much difference. I am going to 30 wt. My 2016 Spark will hopefully last me the rest of my driving career (am 72). It gets 38 mpg in summer and 36 mpg in winter on 5 mile trips into town (75% of driving). Not a big deal. Certainly not worthy of discussion. I guess I have too much time on my hands..lol.

Had breakfast with a 92 year old this morning. He drove himself to the airport, and is clearly in good health. Take very good care of your car, it may need to last longer than it was designed to.

Choose a quality synthetic, change the oil regularly, and choose an adequate viscosity.

Have a great uncle who is 98 and still drives himself everywhere. Goes to the Casino, shops, cooks, reads. Sharp guy. Not a blood relative unfortunately.

Yea it does buster. It uses no detectable oil. I will do a uoa in say 8K miles as an insurance policy.

With it being short tripped , I suggest frequent oil / filter changes .

How many miles per year ?

Best of luck to you ! :-)

God bless

25k in two years so it looks like he does about 12.5k per year. Not really a short tripper with that kind of mileage if you ask me.

Yea..numbers don't lie. But it works out to about 240 miles/week. Its average speed is 26 mph. It has never been driven more than 130 mile round trip. I to at least one of those per month. 2 or 3 30 or 40 mile round trips per week.

BTW I see about 1 mpg decrease over the last week.

Longevity..better protection. Probably minuscule But..notice higher performance engines, especially turbos use 30 wt. bc small engines need to stay small and bigger bearings are not an option. So less bearing area needs more viscosity. Again, I am not saying my switch makes any sense.

I was actually somewhat curious if it decreased mileage...it does.
