2025 Ram SO Hurricane

I bought a new 2025 Ram with the SO Hurricane engine in December. The recommended oil is 0W-20 but I have read some articles that suggest that the 0W-40 that is required in the HO engine is the way to go. I drained the factory fill and replaced with 5W-30 for the summer but am thinking about what I will do for the fill this winter in Pennsylvania. 0W-30 for the winter, 0W-40, or the recommended 0W-20?

Hello to anyone looking for oil analysis info on the 2025+ Ram Hurricane. I have been doing oil changes myself with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w-20 with Mopar filters. After the first change, I have done analysis at 2000 miles and again at 4000 miles. Per the report, it appears the engine is liking this oil. I was mainly concerned about the 20 weight holding its viscosity which it appears to be doing so. As recommended, I plan on extending change interval to 6000 miles and repeating an analysis.

Usually between 200 and 210. Will occasionally go higher when climbing a long grade

Call me the odd man out, I'd run 0W40 if I owned one, especially if I were to tow with it. I watched quite a few videos of guys working that engine, and when they got them real hot oil pressure was quite low, some went into limp mode running 0W20 oil. Flame suit on.

240F oil and 246F coolant temperature I believe, I could be a little off. I was looking into that engine over the winter and there are a few good videos floating around referencing it.

There’s absolutely no downside to running 0w40. Especially if you occasionally tow, higher HT/HS simply is not a detriment to engine life or protection. Even a good 5w40 is fine, as long as your winter temps are above -30*C.

Walmart Supercenters typically have it.

5W-30 M1 EP year round. A robust long life oil, highly shear stable oil, that handles heat exceptionally well, has adequate HTHS at 3.1 (up from the 0W-20's 2.5 to 2.6) and will flow really well in cold weather.

It has a pour point of -49ºF and according to Mobil, is usable down to -40ºF. My reason for recommending it is the shear stability and very wide temperature capability.

I'd pass on the 0w-20. And I wouldn't push intervals on a turbo gdi engine, I'd do 5k or less to play it extra safe. Use any euro rated 0/5w-30/40. Mobil 1 Esp 0w-30 is great along with the 5w-30. Can't go wrong with m1 or castrol 0w-40. If anything you can swap the oil cap for one that says 0w-40.

I watched that along with a few others. IMO the oil pressure should never get that low. I've read about people getting pressures a little higher w/o towing in hot climates running up hills and working the engine a bit.

That is old EP.
Current on pour point is -27, or -33c.
Group III, nothing to see there.

Mobil1 ESP 0W30 all day, any day.

I would agree on a 0w30/40 for that engine. I don't have anything against 0W20, just not a fan in these high stress twin turbo motors. Using 5W30 currently in my Tundra, May experiment with 0W40 sometime in the future.
