Apparently they’re not checking anythingWait you mean they don't have a guy in a room with a filter cutter and flashlight checking these?

Do they? You yourself found these if I’m not mistaken. These oil filter manufactures have multi multi million dollar Quality Control labs. I would not lose sleep using a Fram Endurance yesterday or today!!!
I have to wonder how often they pull one off the line, and run a test on it, in the assumed QC lab.
I have often wondered that myself. @Alien recently got the Boss efficiency claim updated on Purolators website by contacting the president of the company. The old efficiency had been posted for years with no obvious plans to update it to 99%@46 microns.I have to wonder how often they pull one off the line, and run a test on it, in the assumed QC lab.
Unfortunately we live in a culture where bean counters, and (short term) stock prices have more influence on QC, than they should.I have often wondered that myself. @Alien recently got the Boss efficiency claim updated on Purolators website by contacting the president of the company. Yes, when you make millions of a product, a batch is going to slip through from time to time. Not saying its acceptable -- part of the manufacturing process with consumables in life. Not an isolated situation from only Fram for sure over the years.Do they? You yourself found these if I’m not mistaken.

Agree. We’re also finding a disturbing pattern with M+H and First Brands that goes beyond a bad batch. Simply just horrible QC all around their filter line ups.Yes, when you make millions of a product, a batch is going to slip through from time to time. Your lucky to have a cartridge filter to inspect! Others have found filter glue in their oil pan and oil passages/vvt causing various problems. Closed louvers would cause bypass events so it’s hard to say what the long term affects may be. GM has a TSB about constant bypass events causing engine damage.Folks expecting NASA-level QA/QC on something that is a few bucks. The better question is - while the home-brew QA here shows some issues, nobody can point to any of these making any difference in their vehicles "health" and I'm sure these companies have QA/QC metrics but they just may not match with what the average BITOGer wants to see. Glad I have cartridges in my vehicles haha.
Would be an issue running it next change ?I run 5w-30 in my fk8. Wouldnt use anything thinner.
No - of course not. Here on this forum, everyone thinks you have to run a grade or two higher or the world will end. If I had a Type R and was tracking it, yes, I would run a 30 or 40 garde but for normal use? The 20 is fine.Would be an issue running it next change ?
Or perhaps some of us run it because we wish to do so so. There are advantages to doing that, and the only real disadvantage is a somewhat higher fuel consumption. No - of course not. For sure - but "wish to do so" is often portrayed here on the 'tog as "must do so or else XYZ". Big difference and I wish more folks here prefeaced their recommendations with "I do this b/c I like it/feel better/etc." vs. making it sound like it's based on some undeniable facts tied to vehicle/engine longevity etc.Or perhaps some of us run it because we wish to do so so. If you don't run a HT HS of atleast 3.5 you're going to damage your engine. This is especially true for daily driven grocey getters. For sure - but "wish to do so" is often portrayed here on the 'tog as "must do so or else XYZ". We all know them fellas to write the book on whats good. The type r page on Facebook, junk oil ( not amsoil or motul) and a crap filter .
I hope that's true. I ran mostly PP in my van for years and it's pretty badly varnished. The VRP is slowly cleaning it out, but I wasn't impressed with the cleanliness of the PP oil. Is PUP much better in that regard? I hope so.Nothing wrong with PUP. As far as the Endurance goes we’ve found some with a leaking leaf spring where it contacts the end cap. Worse case is your paying for high efficiency but probably getting OEM efficiency.
Not sure about varnish but PUP claims above standards piston cleanliness. It’ll be interesting to see if VRP can clean up the mess!I hope that's true.
