2022 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

Apparently, Aston only calls for API/ILSAC 0w20 in the US  o_O

See page 213 of this owner's manual (it's from 2020, but the same probably goes for 2022)

Even the Euro owner's manual (see page 220) says to only require basic ILSAC/API 0w20. Yikes! Even "lesser" Euro cars have higher standards for their 0w20

That said, any Euro 0w20 will work fine. A Euro-specific 0w20 will be better than any basic SN/SP GF5/GF6 0w20. Any ACEA C5/C6 will do the job.

Brand name doesn't matter. You could even go up to 5w30. A lot of people on here will probably tell you to move up to 5w30. There are a lot of good 5w30 oils to choose from. I'd use either an A5/B5 or A3/B4 0w30 or 5w30, or Rotella T6 5w30 (API CK-4/SN, ACEA E6)

M1, Castrol, PP, Liqui-Moly, even Valvoline has good Euro oils for you.

Castrol 0w30 A3/B4 would be a great choice.

Any car with 'Super' in its designation deserves an oil with the same sobriquet.

Both have a PAO basestock.
Why does PAO matter? What desirable properties does it have? What can it do for an engine?

Ah Ravenol, that wonderful motor oil blended either with Group III + Group I add-pack carrier + add-pack, or PAO + Group I add-pack carrier + add-pack. It's one of the most hyped lubricant brands on the market. Not a hint of Esters or Alkylated Naphthalene beyond the bare minimum required to prevent seal shrinkage, and that's in the PAO based blends.

I have yet to see any indication that Ravenol can actually provide superior wear protection and cleanliness compared to Mobil 1, let alone HPL. From everything I've seen, it should probably be called "Varneol", not Ravenol.

What are your intended driving conditions? Highway driving, stop and go city driving in heavy traffic, track use? How many mile a year?

And the most important question, do you have any pics? :D

Who hypes Ravenol? What sources back up your claim?

Do you work for ExxonMobil?

Exactly...nothing to back up your claims and opnion.

Cannot remember reading a used oil analysis or claim that Ravenol wasn't anything but what it should be and is...

Ravenol is mostly hype and overpriced lubricants of questionable quality and performance.

That being said, no one is stopping you from using their products, so I don't understand your outrage.

used oil analysis is the wrong tool to gauge the quality and performance of lubricants.

No outrage here my friend. I use Ravenol and have no negative experience or impacts.
Your claim around hype has no foundation. Your opinion on overpriced is just that. I see the value in the price point, the quality and the results.

I am sure Mobil lubes are great as is HPL. In fact, I would try HPL before going back to Mobile products.

Why are you so set on hammering Ravenol??

Check out the virgin oil analysis sub-forum for a VOA of Ravenol VMP 5W30.
