VW variable speed oil pump; necessity of using 0W20?

How many threads do we need on this grossly ignorant concept? Besides this one that is currently open there are several others that exist.

If I'm understanding him correctly, his argument is that the variable speed oil pump was put in the car specifically for 0W20. I totally get what you're saying but I'm trying to think of how to articulate that a variable speed oil pump won't know/care about 0W20 vs 0W30 which the Golf R/Audi S3 spec with the same engine (different tune and turbo) but the standard oil pump.
He's dumber than a brick. The oil pump is there to reduce horsepower loss in certain conditions and perhaps to compensate for lower viscosity oil. Not to require it. The whole thing is a bunch of garbage.

No one is hurting their engine, no one is going to shear off the drive gear. If that were the case then every engine that starts at any temperature above normal operation will experience this "hurt". Dead engines would litter the highway here in the Upper Midwest, summer and winter. They'd be all over Florida too for that matter.
