Good evening everyone!
Just did an oil and filter (MANN) change today - 3 months and 5600km on Castrol Euro 5w40 along with changing out air filter and cabin filter.
I have been using this oil now for a couple years instead of the Mobil 1 Euro 5w40
Just wanted to see what the thoughts are on this oil for this model of car.

Thank you and everyone have a nice rest of their evening

I would use Mobil 1 5W-40 and especially 0W-40 any day over Castrol Euro 5W-40.
If you want to stick with Castrol Euro—use 0W-40 A3/B4 or 0W-40 M.

It is lower tier in Castrol line up of Euro oils. Castrol Edge 0W30 and 0W40 are their premier stuff. Mobil 1 5W40 would be my choice over that Castrol 5W40. But if you are getting stuff at Wal Mart, go Mobil 1 0W40, it is step up from Mobil 1 5W40 and especially Castrol Edge 5W40.
Edge 5W40 was always Cadtrol’s budget oil, for the lack of better word. We discussed it here a lot.

Good afternoon and thank you to everyone for their replies. Manual says MB 229.5
I've had a few dealership services A and B as well and they have used 5w40 once a year or 20000km but I found that waaaay to long so I stick with my shorter changes of approximately 5600km..

Definitely next oil change will be the 0w40 Mobil 1 FS! Mann filter!
Please keep us updated with any perceived changes in overall performance of your MB.

I also ran Castrol Edge 5w30 in my NA Honda for years with an OCI of 6 months or about 1500kms (it's a grocery getter). I only ran it because I got it free with gift cards from Home Hardware. On a whim I decided to try Mobil 1 ESP 0w30.
The cars overall performance has greatly improved! I'm sure many on here will say it's all psychological, but after owning this car for almost 6 years, I can attest that it's the ESP 0w30 that's the main contributing factor. Not only around town, but on the highway too.

Definitely will keep ya's updated. I believe ya with **** we notice...
My car runs best with shell vpower 93 over any other fuel I've used...and I've tried em all..

My CLA250 has been running Castrol Edge 0W40 in hot Oklahoma summers and cold Colorado winters for 75k miles now on 10k OCI intervals Mahle filters

I did run some Mobil for the first OCI when I got the car ( it snapped a valve spring during this run of oil ) the Mobil ABSOLUTELY did not have anything to do with the failure
I have a video up on YT if you want to see deep inside a CLA250 engine to fix a $7 valve spring

FYI it has had Castrol gear oil in the rear dif for 75k miles also no issues

Sure I'd love to see the video!
I've never changed the differential or coolant as of yet.
What year is your cla? How do you like it? And that's 10 000 miles for your oci?
Thank you!

My car is a 2014 CLA250 4Matic the previous owner was a relative who runs vehicles up to right at 100k and then gets a new one

All previous service was the Indianapolis area Mercedes dealership

With just over 100k a valve spring had a crazy wicked spiral crack and collapsed EXTREMELY LUCKY it did not bend a valve or do any further damage

Change the rear diff any clean gear oil is far better then old anything but I had zero issues with the Castrol black bottle 75w90

For the Antifreeze I have had to change that out a few different times due to a oil cooler replacement that I did and its crazy to get to by the way and a water pump at 160k both times it got PEAK Euro purple for 2014 up Mercedes

If you have a Pano roof the rail assembly will fail some point ABSOLUTELY do both sides at the same time no matter what the cost or just leave the Pano closed and only operate the sunscreen

Go to YT and type in CLA250 broken valve spring . Same channel nane as my screen name here ..... I tried to break it down into shorter videos feel free to skip thru to the sections that you like

Any other questions I have had one totally apart I know from experience

Mike .

For the Antifreeze I have had to change that out a few different times due to a oil cooler replacement that I did and its crazy to get to by the way and a water pump at 160k both times it got PEAK Euro purple for 2014 up Mercedes

I just replaced my thermostat on my 15 GLA45, twice (long story for another thread, car has 92k miles on it). Ended up removing the Intake manifold on the second thermostat replacement for a better view of what was going on. Also Found the oil cooler / filter housing leaking oil as well and changed that too since everything was out of the way. While I was waiting for the new oil filter and cooler housing assembly, I cleaned the IVs as best I could. Haven't had to do the water pump yet, currently using the Zerex Euro Blue (for older Euro vehicles) since it never got converted over in late 2014 / 2015. Contemplating doing the water pump at the next turbo replacement / swap out (wastegate linkage bushings and pivot points wear significantly on these engines (M133) and often require rebuild or replacement fairly early).

If you have a Pano roof the rail assembly will fail some point ABSOLUTELY do both sides at the same time no matter what the cost or just leave the Pano closed and only operate the sunscreen

Concur, do not operate the Pano if the rails and sliding assemblies have not been maintained / lubricated. The plastic sliding feet and other plastic parts break and prevent proper closure and allow water leakage. Very frequent issue on the GLAs as well. I don't operate mine since it wouldn't close a few years ago and I found the broken pieces in the track, preventing closure. Once I removed them, it closed and I never opened it again. Getting it fixed is more than I am currently willing to spend for that feature.

If you are looking for a better oil, then I would go with what edvyw recommends and you could probably extend the interval out to every 6 months or 8000km. But like dnewton3 said, if you want to keep the current oil change interval at what you are currently doing, then it might not matter if you go with a different oil.

If you are doing the oil changes yourself, could you order filters (engine air, engine oil, and cabin) from FCP Euro?
