Hi All,

My last UOA had a sudden spike in iron which seems to have dropped back off. Fuel is still high due to my wife's addiction to the remote start (it's been cold here). I also forgot to mention last time that she switched to 87 octane for the winter, which may not be burning completely?

Previous UOA HERE

COMMENT: We're pleased to report a solid drop in iron this time around. Sure, the shorter oil change

interval probably helped with that a bit, but there's also been good improvement from a ppm/mile

standpoint, so steel wear really is better than before. Fuel dilution is really the only sticking point in this

report, and 3.0% is a fair amount of fuel. It didn't cause the viscosity to test below grade, though, nor did it

seem to bother the engine's wearing parts. Maybe it's just a fluke and will improve next time. The TBN is

strong, but we'd stay at about 5,000 miles to watch fuel.

Could have been something stuck in one of the bearings. It's still a relatively new engine so I wouldn't worry and certainly not at 59ppm.
This is why trending is important. Had you only had this one report with 59ppm it might be alarming.

I wouldn't trust the fuel numbers because they aren't actually measured but interpreted. (Looks like a Blackstone UOA judging by the comments)

Maybe send a sample to another lab for your next report to see the actual fuel numbers?
Colder weather will always be the worst because engines run richer in the colder weather.

IMO blackstone's fuel is always low. might have been 5% or more.

Probably the remote starting contributed to that.

Those are pretty significant differences between the two "Castrol 0W40". OP, don't take this the wrong way, but did you personally do the oil change, with a sealed jug?

The big differences between moly & boron, the higher viscosity yet higher fuel dilution, the higher TBN yet higher fuel dilution.... they just don't seem to make sense.

But, your iron number is down significantly. That's always a good thing!

No.

"Flashpoint" and "Reid Vapor pressure" determines how easily fuel burns in cold weather

"octane" doesn't have any effect whatsoever on how completely fuel burns.

Yes, I did it, but it may have been the old formula. I have a lot of stock but they are/were all sealed. Sorry for the confusion.

Looks like I either mixed or used old stock as I did in my other vehicle, which you can see HERE

I only have Edge 0w-40 in my stock, all bought new/sealed.

Is it some new version of the castrol? when it have moly and boron and very little TI. Or have i missed someting...
